  • You don't really *need* a sample jar, thermometer, hydrometer or keg, quite a cheap hobby really.

Sorry to pester you Mr E, but what's the minimum I should buy please?

Then I can start pricing up a few variations. I'm definitely doing this for his birthday as it will be a fun hobby and hopefully he likes the taste as well :rotfl:

    Thanks, Tilly x

  • St Peters do lovely bottled beers, can't say that I'm surprised that their HB kits are decent quality.

Tilly, just had a look on Wilko website and they still have reductions on various HB stuff. You can easily buy the basic kit for less than £30, plus maybe another £10 for a beer kit + brewing sugar. Obviously the kit amortises fairly quickly if you do a batch every few months :)
I've popped this one into my basket

Seems like an ok price in comparison to other sites :)

Did you consider buying the components? Might be even cheaper and just as good quality.

    Basically need:

    Bucket
    Big spoon
    Steriliser
    Siphon
    Keg or bottles
    Lids (if bottle route)
    Capper (if bottle route)

Maybe avoid the kit if it requires proprietary beer kits etc.?
  • Thanks Mr E, very much appreciated.

Loving the homebrewing. More cash not going to Mr Osborne.
  • Morning, raining here but not as blustery as yesterday.

Church shortly then back home and dog walking in the rain. I'll prepare the veg for dinner and make the pudding. I have some frozen strawberries to use up, so need to find some inspiration. It may just end up being a 'fool', but at least they are out of the freezer.

I'm hoping for an afternoon of reading and will be found snuggled up in a blanket on the sofa. At this rate with candles lit as it's so dark.

Jobs - take ham out of freezer for lunches tomorrow. Finish ironing - does it ever end?

Mr Ts approach to spending diary is excellent and just in a few days it's become a good habit.

    Right, I'd better crack on.

    Have a fab Sunday.

Pork with fennel seeds sound delicious Tilly, I am currently obsessed with fennel seeds (and other middle class statements).

Homebrewing ... I have some of the makings already ... really want to do this, but not yet. For the first go, maybe kits is best? Too many projects currently on the go to do it at all! Must try harder. But I love the home brewing talk, I've been on wilko's site this morning, thoroughly enjoying HB fantasies :)
