Countdown to Freedom

    Plus my magazine :T

I've sorted a frog for my mother which has been on my list for weeks and is completed :j

I've looked through the menu plan and really don't need to spend much money at all, over the next few weeks. I have a few social things on but cheap events. Mr T and I are saving for next phase of jobs required so I want to ensure as much cash is left from March salary as possible. I've moved it out of the current account so we can forget its there :)

All a means to an end - no mortgage = choice to stop work, or continue but knowing that it's a real choice. We could downsize now but we have decided to wait until one Tilly child has left home, if not both.

The phases we go though as parents have distinct chapters in many respects. The learning to drive one will soon be here and with that, the additional freedom it affords you. I so remember the day I passed my driving test - 32 years ago  - I LOVED hopping into my car and driving off. Whilst I appreciate the lessons will be paid for by us, any potential wheels are likely to be my car being jointly used. As the times of day we need cars are completely separate, there's no point having another car, with it's associated bills, sat on the driveway.

I hope DD relishes the opportunities ahead - fantastic to be at the start of your life and well armed with tools and knowledge :)

DS has time yet but is definitely maturing more quickly than I expected. We were laughing over the dinner table last night and I had a chance to witness these two intelligent, articulate and fairly erudite young people as adults again. I'm glad we have brought them up to welcome challenges and not be afraid to give things a go.

33 months to go and we will be MF :T:T

Well done on the decorating Tilly.
I know what you mean about the children growing up-they certainly grow up fast. Can't believe how quickly time has passed! It doesn't seem like 5 minutes since ours were in nappies!

The problem is newgirly if you're anything like me you have a mental age you've stuck at. Mine is 30. DD is 28 this year. Real possibility she'll be older than me soon :rotfl:.

The biggest change for me was when they went to uni. DD went as a daughter anc came back as a friend :). An annoying, lazy, expensive friend :rotfl:.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

  • Morning NewGirly, they do seem to grow up in a heartbeat when looking back don't they.

I'll miss DD when she leaves in eighteen months, assuming she gets n to Uni, but I'm also looking forward to watching her start her next chapter. I'm encouraging her to keep a journal so that she can look back on her years. She has a delightful sense of fun and a permanent smile which is lovely to see - all of us parents can only do so much and then we have to watch them fly, with perhaps the odd stumble and trip home for wings to be repaired :)

The world is so small these days and we've encouraged them to think of their future work location as being anywhere in the world. If they have the right skills and languages who knows where they may end up :)

Morning GG, I have a mental age of mid 30s and my sense of fun is still the same. I think DD will definitely be older than I am fairly soon. I am thankful that she has her head screwed on the right way and has a real direction and purpose :T.

    Happy days :)

  • Hello,

My mental age has always been 39, but my 31 year old son has always been 40 so he caught up ages ago!
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
