Hi PD, that's really good advice as I was wondering this morning how we knew when to switch between the two. I will check it out later. We are a little later leaving for volunteering than expected as DH seems to be in a very industrious mood.
We are doing our first go this evening under the cover of darkness
I am going to do this.....

I would love to be able to run. I have this as a 'back of my mind' thought - I feel that I would gain a lot both mentally as well as physically yet at the same time I feel quite fearful of trying and I use the word 'trying' deliberately. I am normally very focussed but it makes me feel quite vulnerable. Definitely need to sort this out as it must be a great feeling. As an example, I love cycling and always seem to have a smile on my face and I get the feeling I would feel like that about running, if I can just crack the fear.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Good Morning Tilly
I started running after I had my 1st baby. I'd watched the Great North Run whilst on Mat leave and was so inspired I decided to enter (I had never ran at this point and although I'd been a sporadic gym goer, wouldn't have described myself as sporty).
Anyhow, I got a place! so started "jogging" up the road, got about 100 yards, thought I was going to have a cardiac and stopped. I kept going and ran to a certain car or lamppost then walked. Like you I felt quite self-conscious and that I didn't look like a runner. My DH told me not to worry about what anyone was thinking, I was out there doing it - not sitting at home in front of the telly.
A friend's hubby told me "if you can run for 30 minutes, you can run all day". Which is kind of true...
I trained for the GNR alone and did it - twice. Now I have joined a running club and really enjoy the companionship, the new routes and the fact that I'm being pushed.
I also do the local Parkrun, which is free you just have to register and volunteer 3 times a year. It's a 5k run every Saturday which is timed, so you can try and beat your own time. At ours the fastest runner is under 16 minutes and the slowest around 40 minutes, so all abilities are represented.
I think running is a good cardio workout and apart from a decent pair of trainers, is cheap. But I didn't really lose any weight or tone up by running alone, for that I have had to combine it with regular workouts.
My DVD of choice are Jillian Micheals. I've done her 30 Day Shred (which I loved as it's less than 30 mins a day, so easy to fit in) and have just done Burn Fat and Boost Metabolism.
If you really don't want to run, why not cycle instead? The key is to find what is right for you, then you will be more likely to incorporate it into your life for good.
Good luck and well done on avoiding wine and choc. Every small victory will make you stronger and come the Spring you'll be fabulous! :T1 -
Right, DH and I have been for our first C25k walky/jog - under the cover of darkness so it was fine.
A few spends today but all accounted for so fine. Back to work tomorrow and definitely looking forward to it.
Great time volunteering and all felt better for giving some time.
Dinner for tomorrow is partially made but fortunately Tuesdays are good evenings when we have more time so I haven't had to fully prepare.
Bring on 2012........we are ready and waiting in the Tilly household.

Hi Caz, well we won't have to do the first one again, as it's been achieved. Probably too much laughter but it did us good to be outside. Saying that though, as we volunteered this morning, we've already spent quite a lot of time in the fresh air.
Early night for me - holiday over but a short week so roll on Friday evening.

Hi MacGirl, right I have ordered Jillian michaels shred it. I think doing that every other day in between the walky/jog thing will be good. I am going to do a bit of rejigging my schedule to make sure I can do it in the evening. Thanks for the advice and I will keep you posted on progress. Morning, well work looms and just fitting in a little catching up before whizzing off. Lodger payment received and switched to saving, FD regular saver switch happened, and the first payment for our new foreign money transaction worked. Plus DD for CC finally left, so we start the return to work clean.
I have diarised my council tax payments so that I don't forget to pay by CC, thus enabling me to get cashback.
My personal target for the next two weeks is: only £50 spends for anything other than the normal SO/DD. I think that should be ok given by cooking marathon. I am withdrawing cash so that there is no temptation to 'pop things on a card'.
That's all fow now. I hope everyone's day goes well.
