You can do it :D course you can!

Is there something you can aim for... as in a promise to yourself of a new top (even if it's from a charity shop), or perhaps a distance that you want to walk? How do you feel about running rather than walking? Have you heard of the Couch to 5 program? I realise there's the financial implications of not spending money on junk food, but joint financial and health is a double whammy. Can't beat a double whammy ;)

  • Hi Caz, thanks for your support. I have been talking to a friend about the couch running thingy, and couldn't recall the name, so am off to google it. Thanks for reminding me.

I would love to be able to run. I have this as a 'back of my mind' thought - I feel that I would gain a lot both mentally as well as physically yet at the same time I feel quite fearful of trying and I use the word 'trying' deliberately. I am normally very focussed but it makes me feel quite vulnerable. Definitely need to sort this out as it must be a great feeling. As an example, I love cycling and always seem to have a smile on my face and I get the feeling I would feel like that about running, if I can just crack the fear.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Best wishes Tilly

A lot of my friends have done it and found it great. I haven't, but only because of my joint issues. I did seriously consider trying it anyway, and determined it would be far too painful for me. But having seen others do it, and as you say, seen the mental benefits they've enjoyed as well as the physical ones, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

C25k is the shortening of Couch to 5, because the aim is to get you from doing nothing, to being able to run 5 kilometres in one go, over the course of 9 weeks. It's a very gradual build up. If you're on fb they have a fb page and regularly post healthy eating tips etc as well :)

Hi Caz and Radish, sorry I didn't realise they were the same thing - the lack of alcohol and chocs is slowing down my brain :rotfl::rotfl:

I am on the website now and checking out the running with pooch as that sounds like a good plan. I think I would feel happier having DH doing this with me to begin with - hope thats not just an excuse though.

Will get back to my reading,

  • Good morning, glorious blue sky and we are just getting ready for a couple of hours of volunteering.

My ironing is complete, the airing cupboard is empty and everything put away.

I have spoken to DH about the C25k and he seems positive. So that starts today as well. It falls in line with my 8 weeks ban of choc and alcohol (9 vs 8). I feel very apprehensive though and no idea why running is making me feel this emotional. I would normally describe myself as strong and determined but I definitely have a barrier or two to get over. Wish me luck.

I guess because it is bank holiday my DD have not gone through which is disappointing, as I wanted to see the CC cleared and my FD regular saver fill up etc. I will have to wait until tomorrow and then its back to work. I am really looking forward to it though. My brain seems to be much slower when I am not working at 90mh.

Best wishes to all, Tilly x
