  • I am going to prepare some stuff for the next free eb@y weekend. Just need to find a Sunday with ok ish weather.

Good luck with your decluttering, car boot sale and fleabay. I am also trying to do a bit of selling on fleabay, but the hoarder in me does not want me to be deprived of my precious treasures. Have to try a bit harder !!
    Mortgage: @ Feb. 2007: £133,200; Apr. 2011: £24,373; May 2011: £175,999; Jun 2013: ~£97K; Mar. 2014 £392,212.73; Dec. 2015: £327,051.77; Mar. 2016: ~£480K; Mar. 2017 £444,445.74
  • Also try Preloved - it's better than ebay/car boot for bulky or heavy items.

  • Hi Tilly,
Unfortunately the meal planning afternoon never materialised on Sunday - often seems to be the way with small children that I plan to do something and then somehow the time slips away without me getting round to it! I will try again this weekend, although OH has done a big online order this evening. We are down to the bare minimum in the fridge and cupboards so some food is definitely needed, but I will check through it before the deadline to make sure that we are only buying what we need!

Good luck with your decluttering - I am trying to do the same at the moment. We have a big house but it is very old, so no built in storage to speak of - we need to be very creative to find places to store our clutter, or simply get rid of the clutter! I have a place booked at a second hand children's clothes sale in a few weeks time, so need to organise what I will be hoping to sell there, and my sister is also visiting in the next couple of days so I have a bag of my favourite girl's clothes ready to hand on to her for my nieces. I'm not really a minimalist either, but there is a limit to the amount of clutter that I can cope with - getting rid of some of the excess "stuff" makes you appreciate what is left very much more.

Morning, what an amazing collection of people we have on this site. To be part of a virtual group, where people offer this amont of support and advice is pretty remarkable. :T

I have made a 3p OP today - could take a long time at that rate.....

CA - good luck with your menu planning - although my kids are now older, it's still hard to find some quiet time. Try the evening with a large glass of wine :). I used to clothes swap with friends for the kids frequently - our kids used to love exploring the bags. Storage is difficult and even in a new house has its challenges. Ours has one ridiculous cupboard and that's it. Good luck with the clothes sale - I haven't heard of that type of event before - what a great idea.

MRN, I am registered now with Preloved to have a look round thanks for the tip.

US, let's challenge each other to tackle one room of precious treasures and see how we get on. SsS was talking about this on her diary and I agree with her - what would we really save if disaster struck. I would pick up a photo of my parents and my children when they were small. I sat thinking about this last night and it shocked me how little I would rescue

Ammonite, Mr T used to be a hoarder and then when much younger switched into a 'throwawayer' - he sounds like your OH, but has been known to throw something away, that we have had to rebuy. I vet all his throws now, just in case :rotfl:

HKD, hope all goes well with the kids stuff. When ours were young we did loads of car boots but that was before eb@y :)

Have a good day, end of the working week tomorrow and looking forward to a glass of wine and pasta with HM pesto.

Well done on your OP. I have recommended you as winner for the smallest OP. :T:j

All my pictures are loaded into Flickr and cloud. :p
Even the old ones from the album have been scanned and uploaded.

OK, Tilly. Now that you have thrown down the gauntlet and I have picked it, I'll get started with DS2's wardrobe on Saturday. last time I looked I saw unworn uniform shirts still in their packets (BNWT). I have put a cardboard in the ready to put all the fleabay-able stuff in.

Now, off to do my work. I am working from home today. So, will be peeping in now and then. :D

  • Hi US, I will do a bookcase, a two drawer chest of drawers with table cloths in - how many do you really need  not two drawers full. Plus a 6 drawer chest of drawers in our bedroom. That's the first challenge up and running. Good luck Tilly x

  • Carboot sale Sunday is on the calendar. Long range weather forecast looks ok - who know but will know whether it makes sense on the Saturday. Will be sorting all car boot stuff on Saturday and will box ready to go. Sounds mad but I am really looking forward to it. It is only going to be Mr and Mrs T as we need the room in the car for the 'booty'

Kids can make Sunday lunch :T instead.

    Right back to work

Good for you Tilly with your decluttering :) Not only does it make financial sense, but I feel the action of removing unneeded "stuff" very therapeutic, especially if I can find it a new home with someone who will really appreciate it. Just in the past week I've sold a bundle of little toy cars to two little boys who will love them to death, some boy clothing to a lad having a growth spurt, rehomed a mountain of baby stuff to a friend expecting soon, bought some jewellery from a lady also having a major clear out, and a beautiful skirt from another lady. If you're on Facebook I can highly recommend a group to sell in?

Have to admit though... my "to eBay" box is overflowing  It's now a box, with a rather large (full) bag on the top, with something else balanced on top of that. Plus another bag of things to donate to charity!

  • Morning, 1st October will see the last FD regular saver payment being made. I will OP part of that :)

NSD ahead and I am making pesto for the freezer tonight - will steal some for dinner. Serving with the last of the salad leaves planted in summer. The last planting is almost ready to start picking :T I had intended to make and freeze the pesto earlier in the week but work has been a little mad. So many of us seem to be in the same boat on the work front.

Looking forward to car boot sort out, we did some of this a few months ago, so definitely will have sufficient stuff to sell. No idea what people are interested in though so will be a little experimental. I also have bathroom cabinets which really are too heavy for eb@ying. I am having a go with Preloved for some china bits and pieces.

Coming to the end of the month again, so will also do an updated freezer and larder inventory. I have two SW cookery books, will use those as the source of recipes for the next month. I will get the menu and shopping list prepared on Saturday as well. I want to keep Sunday free to work in the garden.

I have enough room in the freezer to do a bargainous meat and fish hunt. Will try that out on Monday evening I think.

Have a good day and hard to believe its Friday already.

    Best wishes Tilly x

Good luck with your car boot sale - one word of warning, people expect stuff for next to nothing. I did pretty well when most of my items were 50p/£1 and the "better items" were less than £5. I stuck to my guns on a few things that I wouldn't be bartered down on and ended up coming home with...so weigh up if you'd prefer to let it go cheaper or if you are happy to return home with the item.

We did well with home items, we had bedsheets (some new some nearly new), pictures etc so the bathroom cabinets will probably do well.

Best of luck, I had lots of fun when I did one, you do meet some really funny characters :D

If you find any good slimming world recipes...pass them on to me please! My Mum made a lovely SW lasagne which was really yummy for 'free' I will dig out the recipe for you.
