Lodgers sound like a great idea, our house is far too small though. I don't even like having guests staying so I know I wouldn't get used to lodgers. Maybe I'm just anti-socials :D

ITA Ammonite, I would really struggle, but I know that I AM antisocial!
  • Good morning, takeaway was great, £34.50 for 4 which does seem expensive but we all enjoyed it. I am making a huge amount of minced beef and onions today as I will be portioning to freeze. I'll turn some into a chilli for dinner this evening.

Contemplating working from home today - need to decide soon.

All the washing was dried on the line yesterday again, but I do need to find time to iron.

Today will be a NSD. Shopping tomorrow but only about £30 ish I think.

@US I will chase S&S as they have not responded :)

That's it no more money updates :(

  • Hi Tilly,

Yum, take-away but only as an extreme treat in our house.

I had the 'lodger' chat with MrMRN yesterday. I got a "no" at first but after a little explaining/information/possible earnings I got a "maybe". He's not going away till next year so there's time for me to work on the matter (or just plain grind him down!).

p.s. is it a work from home day?

Thanks Tilly. I have applied, will now wait and see whether they'll consider me.

I can quite understand how with full quorum, you find cooking meals exciting. I am also the same!

  • Hi MRN, yep decided to work from home and it's a good job. I have only felt like throwing my lap top from a great height once so far - things must be improving.

Well done on the lodger discussion - its a big thing to consider so better to start early with debates. One thing to consider though - if they pay weekly, they only need a week's notice, so if you felt it wasn't working you have a get out clause. We also insist that the family meets them - we all have to live together to its important the dynamics work. We don't do it in an intimidating way, just a cuppa and a chat, bit of a laugh etc and you can quickly see whether it will work.

Have a good day - I am off to have spreadsheet fun :T

Was the spreadsheet fun? I am itching for payday to update totals although I fear the savings pot will be neglected this month as the credit card bill looms large!
  • Morning Ammonite, sadly spreadsheet stuff was all work related, by the end of the data I couldn't see straight :rotfl:

You are doing brilliantly with your savings so a month of reduced saving seems pretty good to me :)

Weather on the turn - I am not listening to kids telling me it's cold. I told DS to do 10 star jumps to warm up yesterday.

8 days to go and then the heating will be on morning and night. As DH works from home I would like us to get through to 1 November before its on all day.

Have a good day, Tilly x
