Morning, well a very groggy morning. Like many, I am sure, we all stayed up to watch the closing ceremony and we overslept this morning. I thought it was a shame Diversity didn't do a stint. The lighting was truly phenomenal.

Moving on. This week the whole family are having a NS challenge. We can only do things which are free. The kids are spending time investigating what's on locally and we will give it a go.

We are also challenging ourselves to cycle to the town centre :T. Financial Bliss, if you read my diary at all, I don't think any of us could get to your standard, but having read your diary last night, we are all giving it a go. This is in an effort to stop jumping into the car for one off things. Therefore, it should help on a number of fronts - physical and financial :)

A week to payday and things are extremely tight - hence the challenge. Spending diary has been a big help and I will do some analysis after a couple of months to see where the money is leaking.

Have a good day all, and  to our MSE preparation for the next Olympics, 2016 here we come.

    Tilly x x

Reading through your diary. Interesting read. You have done very well. I quite like the idea of Family NS Challenge :T

  • Evening MQ, thanks for stopping by. I tend to ramble on, on my diary but it has been the saviour of us all. I truly mean that. I lurked for close on a year before plucking up the courage to start a diary, and I should have just got stuck in :)

I blew the NSD today, but only because DD had received two pieces of good news and I didn't want DS to feel left out. So I popped into G@P and bought a T shirt for £5 from the final clearance rack :)

We have been foraging for blackberries and have made apple and blackberry pie, blackberry ice cream. Kids have been to a volunteering event, so fun, free and beneficial for others - good week so far :T

    Best wishes Tilly x

Right announcement made to Mr Tilly and kids, so we are having the Tilly Olympics on either Saturday or Sunday. I was laughing so much as DS has decided it can be a pentathlon :eek:

    Wish me luck Tilly x

    Will there be lycra? ;)

  • Morning, I am really catching up on my sleep, definitely needed :)

Thursday and it will be a NSD, payday tomorrow, so I am going to OP the lodger rent/food. Intend doing a bargainous fruit and veg hunt on Saturday, using cash and that's it. Will be making more icecream as I have some bits and bobs to use up. Bread rolls on the agenda for making/baking today.

I am still being vigilant about phone chargers, microwave etc being turned off and it's paying dividends. The kids seem to be switching their sockets off each morning so that's now a habit.

Lovely sunny day and I am going to have a cuppa then head into the office. Have a great day, Tilly x

I couldn't even get 28year old sister-in-law to turn stuff off when she stayed with us for a few months! Our elec consumption doubled!

Guess who she called when her first utility bill came through after moving out of ours?!?!?!

  • Hi Lois and MRN, it did take me a long time to train them. In the end I took the chargers away and said if you don't turn them off, then you lose them

  • Hi, Tilly

Have read your diary, your doing so well, and I hope u don't mind me commenting.

I Had to laugh reference the kids turning things off, I have four and it's only when the tv is banned in their rooms, or access denied, that I seem to save money on my bills.

To top it this evening, Baby Annabel's leg got torn off by my 15 yr old because he could not find his tv remote. I did for i second consider using my nectar points to buy DD1 another one (not MSE) but took his chore money instead. He does have issues (Autism), but kids eh!.

Hi EAD, you are way more generous than me - I have never let the kids have a TV in their rooms :)

Well done on getting DS to use chore money - we have friends with a severely autistic child and they have really strict rules which he needs. I joined the National Autistic Society after seeing the frustration with financial cuts etc. In the area we live in, education has been very difficult - I have helped out with campaigning for better resources and respite care and as an outsider it is frustrating, to see the limited support available.

Thanks for stopping by, I will check out whether you had a diary and come and stalk.

    Best wishes Tilly x
