Thanks ZM, I don't watch the show- makes me cry too much :o

My head tells me the old boy isn't coming back-but my heart doesn't agree. It keeps me looking under bushes etc when I'm out walking with Brucie and Zelda.

The old man will be 13 this year, so that plays on my mind a lot. I know I haven't been posting on here much. Few things just got too much for me over the past few weeks, and I took some time out. Oldest son went to Afghanistan, Youngest sons camp was on high alert after Woolwich, and dad rushed to hospital all within a week.

I hope no one thought I was ignoring them. I truly wasn't.

I want to say a big thank you to everyone for their thoughts and messages both here and on FB.

    Aileen xx
Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

If you can't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.

I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them :)

Oh no...as if you didn't have enough to worry about.

Is your dad ok? I can well understand how concerned you must be about your sons too.

Hope things improve for you. Big hugs.

Thanks ZM-yes, he's a bit better now. He's 79 and seems to have given up though :-(
I'm a strong person, but goodness-my worry bucket was full for a time there.

Yes he is, but I had to come back home for work. He lives near Glasgow, so about 200 miles away. Sister, brother and various aunties are there nearby though.

Funny though- I was down there- and STILL looking at every black dog I saw. That's not going to leave me I don't think-no matter what my head says.

And every time you post, my stomach lurches, as I'm sure all here do, wondering whether "Is this it"?
Only when Rory will be of an age to have naturally passed over Rainbow Bridge will you be released from looking. I wish you peace soon Sazz, as it must have been torture for you.
I hope then you get closure and not spend the rest of your life wondering what happened?

There was another disappeared dog on here, a Springer if I remember correctly. Jumped a wall I think, wonder how that turned out?

No solace to you Sazz, but so many dogs never return. One would assume then, that there would be evidence of RTAs or something but there's not. Where do all the missing dogs go?

I've said this before on your thread that I've never seen a wandering dog, well not in years since the Wardens cleared up the problem.
I remember years ago visiting someone and dogs were roaming in packs.

I'm sorry my post has no solutions, I do hope though that you get on with enjoying your family, human and otherwise. No one could have done more than you have.
I can't suggest you "Let it go," I'm not in your mind. I do however wish you peace in that you let Rory pass over at some stage as he must be of that age now. :A
  • Not sure if this has already been mentioned or covered but have you contacted your local radio station to chat about him going missing? I get the feeling local phone ins are keen for people with anything interesting to add - and you could always make whatever subject they are talking about relevent to your dog. For example the other day I was listening to local radio during the day about charging for plastic bags - all sort of dull people phoned in with very random stories. I was only listening as I was stuck in traffic and didnt want to miss updates. You could phone in with a story about how dont mind paying cos plas tic bags break and once your dog ate some of your shopping becuase the bag spit and then explain about him going missing.
I get the feeling someone has him - assumed he was a stray - and then has kept him. It could get anyone listening to think of friends/ family members with new dogs....
Another thought was to see whether locall rescues keep records of dogs that have been re-homed. Perhaps they would look at records on your behalf, and then contact the re-homer if any dogs match your's description.

    Sorry for waffling a bit.

Thank you Pad. I feel incredibly guilty that my head is starting to go down that road now. I will always wonder what happened to him. I like to think of two options.

One-the night he ran, he got so tired he decided to have a little sleep under a bush, and just didn't wake up-no pain, no trauma. Two-some kind family found him, took him home and loved him to bits. Believe it or not, either option gives me comfort.

You're right though- all those dogs on DogLost-they can't ALL live in the wilderness like we do-they must be somewhere!

I love my old boy- and I love him enough to let him go. But I'll always, ALWAYS hold him in my heart. :A

Thanks WOTW, the radio ran the story for a few days when he went missing in 2011, and the local papers still put a bit in about him now and again. Dogs Today magazine had an editorial on him too.

Being realistic -he went missing in 2011 when he was 11 years old, he'll be nearly 13 now, so our hopes aren't high any more. It's taken us until now I think to accept it.

But thank you for your advice.

I think with acceptance comes peace sazzy. You are right in understanding that despite all our best efforts, it's unlikely now that Ruaridh will come home.

Like you, we can all only pray that he is at peace wherever he is.
