I work in the caring sector, where the boss calls clients PUNTERS, makes me cringe just hearing it
  • Yes, there can be friendly banter at work but it is the tone and the kind of working relationship that defines banter in my opinion. It doesn't even matter if your boss thinks he's just bantering with you. If you do not agree and feel its disrespectful, I would have a quiet word with him asking him again to stop the name calling as it makes you uncomfortable.
If he continues tell him you will report him to HR if he does not stop. Do not put up with it if you feel bullied.

We are all different and what offends one person may not offend the next person but that does not mean you have to accept being treated in a way that you feel unacceptable. It is you who has to spend around 40 hours a week at this workplace and you need to feel happy going to work and not go in there dreading being called names.

Surely it all depends on whether the OP is a knob head or not.

why are they not punters? while at networking meetings many small businesses call customers punters don't see a problem with it to be honest.

They are service users of a social care provider. Punters are who frequent Ladbrokes.
