With reference to the "Other Offences" admittance:

On interview, the police note down all similar/same offences committed in the area. (and often they draw a circle with a large radius!)

Then they enter the interview room, where some slimy little swine sits, smirking at them.

They inform the low life of the said offences and offer him something useful to 'admit' to some or all of them. His solicitor advises him to do so.

He is convicted and gets a terrible punishment, probably 'Community Work' if he is very unfortunate.

This happens over and over again until the interviewing officer becomes totally disillusioned with a job he once loved.

    Concerning Insurance companies:
It's "Post Code" application. Certain High crime areas, on information freely available, is recorded by insurance companies and they apply higher premiums to those who live there.

    Regarding Streets:
A police friend told once, that people who live in cul-de-sacs, are less likely to be burgled. Burglar enters culde-sac, starts his work. Neighbour sees him at it, phones police. If they get there in time (?!) burglar is trapped by the police car entering the street.

Apparently he was told this himself by a reformed burglar.

EDIT: We live in a cul-de-sac and have never had a burglary. Two streets away, there have been 3 burglaries and 2 stolen cars.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

    Interesting.
We also live on a cul de sac, albeit a very very long one (probably half a mile) and we are virtually at the end of it. This is the first problem we've had in the street for 15 years.

We live in cul-de-sac and the chap next door was burgled.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Just had a phone call from the Police, surprise surprise our scumbag didn't show up in court. This means that we won't get any compensation for the mirrors he stole until they catch up with him. So, warrant for his arrest has now been issued and we are playing a waiting game.

    Bloody annoyed now!!
  • It wont be long before they catch him

    These idiots are totally predictable
  • like 12 year olds pinching car badges to stick on the bedroom wardrobe. but none the less its a theft that costs money to the victim.

Years ago I used to have a fancy for Mercedes and a good mate of mine at the time knew it. We were house sharing at the time and the prat one night walked in with a Merc badge from the bonnet of a car.. still attached to the spring mechanism below it for the bonnet release

I'll never forget.. he said "Here'ya mate, now you just need to find the rest of the bits to restore it to driveable condiction" :rotfl:

I thought it had come from a scrapyard that he frequented or something but two days later he came rushing in through the door saying he wanted it back as it had come from a car on the side of the road where his GF lived and he needed to put it back in
The genuine covers from Vauxhall come in at around £90 a pair colour coded

Thats cheap mate.. mine are £250 for one
    Just found this
    1. Criminal Compensation Orders
You may of course not need to resort to civil action to receive compensation. If the offender is convicted, a criminal court can order he or she pay you compensation for any injury, loss or damage that you suffered because of the offence.

Considering the op was hit twice and had to cough up the cost of CCTV to catch the ****, presumably the cost of the CCTV can be classed as a loss and compensated for?

As for him being on the run from the court, now the fuzz have found the little s**t, maybe you can put a youtube video up showing him in the act. Just blurr out the other guy. I can think of a nice little title for the video starting with wanted :D

Haha would love too, but I'm playing the game for now. The forms we submitted we could claim only for our losses, and its doubtful that the original £90 covers will be compensated, just the £25 he nicked a week later.
On the plus side though I managed to pick up a set on ebay, odd stone chip but nothing major, in our colour for £20. I refuse to put them back on the car until at least the end of January. Have a feeling our little friend may be sniffing around again soon.

Is this not the route of the problem?

Don't be annoyed. It's not unusual. It is unlikely in the extreme that he will evade arrest for more than a couple of days.
