I got mine (a few years ago now!) from a local hardware store but not sure if you have one near you. If you have and they don't keep them in stock they may well be able to order one for you.

Thankyou, and welcome as well !!!

The reason for the strange request is that DD2 was watching Jamie Oliver on TV Monday evening, and he was using a metal bucket which he had made holes in and was cooking prawns and trout on it. As we are taking Daddy away for a couple of days rest at the weekend, she wants to cook it for him on the bucket a la Jamie style ! We usually cook on an open fire when camping anyway, but DD2 being her usual determined self, MUST cook it exactly as Jamie does.

We do have a hardware store nearby, I think its closed on a Wednesday, but I will try and pop down there tomorrow. Thankyou !!

Any agricultural suppliers near you? Might be a little bit cheaper than a high street hardware store. Or there's this for £5.85 on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9L-GALVANISED-METAL-BUCKET-WITH-HANDLE-GARDEN-COMPOST-COAL-ASHES-FIRE-/190671283055?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Garden_Plants_Pots_Window_Boxes_CV&hash=item2c64e4e36f
  • Don't know if it helps, but Sainsbury's have 'bucket barbeques' which look like fun. I bought one for my OH birthday last year as a wee gag gift (always threatening a BBQ but we never get the weather) and it's still in the wrapper! They still have them on the shelves though (there's a rumour that it's actually summer... no idea what gives that impression!) :rotfl:

Take care if you're thinking of using a galvanised metal bucket for cooking. I found this online, which I had sort of suspected, as I've been looking for metal buckets for burning things in for a long time but can't find one that's not got zinc on it.
Galvanized steel should never be used for cookware or food storage since this may lead to zinc poisoning (aka heavy metal poisoning). Exposure to high levels of zinc can cause lethargy, dizziness, nausea, fever, diarrhea, irritability, muscular stiffness and pain, loss of appetite, and reversible pancreatic and neurological damage.

Pot stands and stoves constructed from galvanized steel can cause metal fume fever when heated. This is caused by the inhalation of zinc oxide fumes or dust produced when galvanized steel is welded or burned. The signs and symptoms can be vague (shaking chills, fever, body aches, headache, and fatigue) and are similar to those of the flu or a viral illness. Onset of symptoms often occur well after exposure (3-10 hours) and makes the connection between using your stove and sickness less obvious than one would think. Symptoms usually resolve after 48 hours if you quit cooking with galvanized steel.

Metal Fume Fever has been linked with occupational asthma and is a pretty noxious illness.

Ooh thats kinda scary and interesting all at the same time Grand Benders !!!

We have used the Sainsburys bucket BBQs before, it was a pink one and it worked a treat actually. The thing is DD2 is a funny little soul and she felt Jamies idea looked much more fun that an off the shelf bucket. He punched a few holes in it, filled it with hot coals and pretty much done the same as you would on any other bucket barbie, but she clearly wants to be just like Jamie. I think he has a website with details of the programme and recipes etc on it from Monday night so I will take a look and see if he mentions the exact type of bucket to use, zinc, tin etc. Thankyou for your invaluable advice though, I dont want the whole Pinot family wiped out in the middle of a Suffolk Field just yet !! :rotfl::eek:

I have also heard that same strange rumour as you have heard ,that apparently its summer, I have no idea who on earth would spread such untruths and escalate these rumours country wide.......but it wasnt me .........honest !! :D

  • I know its baltic, I am wearing tights and I saw some sky this morning I think, but that was shortlived.

Then we had a patch of good weather (drizzle) and onto some fair weather (steady rain) and now its a bit rugh out (windy and torrential) and the river is very high and might burst its banks. Fab!
    Trying to shift that debt!

We have had a little sun, a little rain but no high winds as yet but I am sure they are heading our way ! We do have blue sky with lots of clouds. I will take a stroll to the river later and check out its banks just incase I need to stock up on sandbags !

Something spooky just went on there, I was posting on your diary as you were on mine !!! Ooooer !! ;)
