• We reported this to the police a week ago, they didn't seem to concerned and had not heard of this scam. We phoned back a few days later with the IP address taken from the website WhoCallsMe. Someone was supposed to phone us back after the initial report but nobody had. I don't think they are interested. £270 is an awful lot of money to us.
I also reported the Gum tree add so did my partner and they only removed a couple of days ago. Don't think my partner heard back from UKash.
I'm just really sad that this scam is still operating and innocent people are losing hard earned money. I have almost resigned myself to not getting any money back only so I can let go off the upset and anger I feel. However that just lets these careless idiots continue to not take notice of innocent people that have been scammed.
Will continue to pursue now.
• The same thing has happened to me. From a Teresa Sutton Also got the 'parcel force worldwide' email asking me to email back a photo of the ukash voucher. AVOID! Replies i had were:

Re-scheduled for Tuesday, same time slot. You'll need cash to buy the voucher. Here.... you can find the nearest shop and ask for the ukash voucher. Scan it or take a close-up picture using your mobile phone of the ukash voucher and reply with it to the email from parcelforce. Hope this helps.
Teresa.

Unfortunately I've just got called into the office (i get sent countrywide with less than 24hrs notice) so very busy till next week. Back at work we have some shipments for large items with parcelforce all week long. Just thought it would save you time and hassle if I'll send it along with them free of charge :) company benefits :) .

I asked around and it seems you can pay cash upon delivery/inspection. It's quite simple since they're able to wait for you to check it out, if not as described they can just void the shipment with no extra charge.

If that's alright with you I'll need a name, address, contact number and also date&time suitable for the delivery.
Working long hours so If you want to pop in and pick it up you'll have to wait till next week or so when hopefully I'll get my head around :)
Let me know either way.
Teresa.

I drew my money out but luckily didn't buy a voucher. And then found this brilliant forum. Still worried that my name, address and phone number may be used as identity fraud though. Hopefully not. I reported the ad to gumtree.

Hope people find this forum before falling for this very believable scam! BE CAREFUL PEOPLE.

Hello all

I was just nearly scammed myself.. we saw the following ad on Gum tree, advertised by Amanda Wilder -

http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/leather-and-fabric-corner-sofa/106903137#gallery-item-full-2

We had he same excuses.. no phone signal, can use parcel force via work etc.. I just had the email from Parcel Force and called them to check it was legit before I went to pay via pay point.. they advised that it is a scam! What horrible people there are in this world. :(

Surely Gum Tree should be doing something about this???

Hello.
A few weeks ago I was hoping to buy a Yamaha cp300 stage piano from alexa75brown@gmail.com Because I noticed the scam once I had puchased the ukash vouchers (but before sending the codes to the scammers), I was also left wondering how to change back my ukash vouchers into cash.
My understanding is that Ukash is a genuine operating service - and they will refund your cash if you follow the procedure outlined on their website. However, there will be a charge to do this; the exact fee changes depending on the time that has elasped since you purchased the vouchers - but it starts at 10% for the first year. I.e. to get a refund from Ukash on the £500 vouchers I had, would have cost me £50.
I'm not sure whether this was actually worth it in the end, but I instead decided to purchase one of their 'Ukash Out' cards that they sell (in affilation with MasterCard). Once you load your voucher codes onto the card, you can withdraw the money from an ATM.
However, again there were a number of charges. It cost £10 to purchase the card, a fee of 4% for every voucher you load to the card, a small percentage on the withdrawals, and then a further £10 to close the account. There are other charges, outlined on their website, that apply to accounts that are left open even if they are not being used, so you have to remember to close the account once withdrawing the funds.

The total costs I incurred using this method were about £36 - compared to the £50 I would have had to spend getting a refund.

There may be better ways of handling this, but hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for replying to me. I bought my voucher in April of this year, and it's worth £100, so I'd rather have them take the 10%, which in my case would be £10, rather than pay the £36 that you did to get your money back. However, to my understanding, I thought Ukash only take 6% of the value of the voucher when they do the refund as this is what it says on the refund form, where did you hear it was 10%?
• Well I feel a total Nugget today! I've just handed over £270 for an Outwell Montana Tent via Pay Point. When it didn't arrive as planned today I contacted Parcel Force who confirmed my worst fears!! I am so annoyed at myself:mad:!

I got exactly the same email as the rest of you about working countrywide etc and I thought wow, how kind is that she going to organise delivery - what a total plonker I feel! It could have been worse, I nearly added another £30 for her generosity!!!! This time the name was Teresa Sutton and like the other posts there was a google account which I looked at, I just never clicked that it could be fraudulent.

I've reported it to the Police and to Trading Standards but there is little else I can do now (apart from drink a couple of glasses of wine to ease the pain:(. I've emailed Gumtree but judging by other posts I guess I'm not going to get a response. The only thing that I can possibly think of doing is to alert as many people as possible to the scam. If Gumtree aren't will to do anything about it then I won't be using the site again and I will strongly advise others not to either.

I just wish I'd looked this up before handing over the money but I didn't so I just have to get on with it!!

Hello,

It was on their FAQ page - (type ukash FAQ into search engine) - under 'Can I get a refund'. The link sends to you a form which asks for a 10% service fee on refunds under 12 months. If you've send some different info - then great!
• My mum was almost scammed on GumTree a couple of days ago, until I thought a quick look on google would be good as we'd never heard of ukash before and the kitchen seemed like an amazing bargain. The emails were the same as the ones posted above about parcel force.

Thanks to this thread my mum never continued the sale and was saved from losing £240 for a kitchen.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! I'll never forget that one.
