SOT I just did the monthly shop (which is everything but fresh fruit and veg for the whole month) and since I made my list last night the prices changed!!! I mean it went up the equivalent of 2% before I made my list, and after I bought everything the other rises added another 3% to my costs!! I buy mainly Value/Basic products and those are the ones hit the hardest!!! I mean a 5% overall rise in price since I set up my list just before Eliza was born... so in a week! I was gutted! We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240

JulieGeorgianaCongratulations!
re price rises. Went to supermarket this week and did a weekly shop it came to £105 couldnt believe it. It used to be much less. And one large bag of flaked almonds was half the previous size but the same price. Currants and sultanas much higher price too. its getting scarey.0 -
Dreading the big shop in that case!
I did notice my hi juice cordial has gone up 20p again, about third rise in as many months. Not expensive enough to stop buying it, but I am drinking less these days.Debt Free since Nov 11 (ish) (except the £118000 mortgage) as at Jan 2013 but still hanging around DFW as I need to Stay On Track.

Morning all, how is everyone? It's not so cold here today which is a blessing as the last couple of days have been really bitter.
I have to say I'm chuffed to bits with FD, they are a pretty impressive bank so far. I applied for a new current & savings account online on Saturday, the paperwork arrived yesterday with everything opened, account no's, information etc.
I have called them twice, once with a query and yesterday to complete some security information and each time the phone has been answered practically straight away by a human! What a refreshing change, I usually avaoid calling banks as the 'Push 1 for xxx, Push 2 for XXX' drives me bonkers.
Once I get paid, I shall open a Regular Savers account to get the benefit of the 8% interest and I may transfer my ISA to them also. We'll see.
All huge (and very organised) steps forward for me in maintaining the debt-free ness!!!I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions...0 -

BiB
BiB, as it's money which you wouldn't usually have, maybe you could use it to do things that you wouldn't normally do? Perhaps the MSE & the non-MSE sides of you can find a happy compromise
rising, I too would have been morified. There's something about some surgeries, some GPs and some receptionists isn't there? We're very lucky, we have the most fantastic GP, she really has been brilliant (especially since DH's accident) but I know that thisn't always the norm as our old GP was rubbish.
SOT, top marks for the oven cleaning... you don't fancy doing another one do you?
Aly, I'm so pleased for you! You've got a big savings boost and that's brilliant. I don't think anyone will be laughing at you for feeling rich! Enoy that feeling for as long as you wantI myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions...0 -

I noticed it on washing gel the other week - used to be £3 and suddenly jumped to £3.50 in a week:eek: - with an immediate "rollback" to £3 grrrrrr (it had always been £3) - trying to disguise price hikes again me thinks:mad:
That's 16.5% .....Little_bit_dizzy wrote: »Just had my annual work review this lunchtime  and I was a bit nervous but it went brilliantly and I've only gone and got myself a rather lovely payrise!!!!
Fantastic news Dizzy!:D
Sam & Aly I'm in a pretty insecure job toostill not sure what's happening after the end of March. Really starting to worry as I'm only just starting to sort myself out financially and hate the thought of having no savings etc to fall back on..... Have started looking around but honestly, there is nothing here (2 jobs in the paper last week). Keeping everything crossed for you.

Ive been Awol for a couple of days but the MSE cravings just couldn't be ignored any longer.........when Im not here I always feel like I am missing something important:o
Catch up time:D
JulieG. Your DS is a credit to you both and I'm sure he will get even more protective as Eliza gets older, you and mr JG are very blessed. I can't believe lil Eliza will be a week old in a couple of days:eek: As for shopping I completely understand, I seem to be coming closer and closer to using my complete shopping budget every week, I may have to up it if this carries on:(
Dizzy I would def have told him that the money was coming and that it was goign straight into some kind of savings. Congrats on the payrise that is a rare piece of good news in these times:T
Sam Good luck with the job:)
BIB any news yet about the £500? I would have done exactly what you did, contacted and made sure it was meant for you. If you find out it was I would split it up (or in my case buy a shed:D) and be a good MSEer with part of it and enjoy the other part.
Rising I hope you have had a better week at work and that your foot is feeling a lot better.
I was thinking about Dizzys issue and it made me consider how we all view money in relationships. I often read on here that people have been treated by OH, or have got an NSD because OH paid instead etc. So makes me wonder if a lot of people keep money separate. My OH and I see all the money in our relationship as joint, and when in debt all debts as joint, therefore neither of us spend if it is a NSD and we both speak about all decisions and purchases. I have had to be tough with OH at some points because whilst he is a very hard worker he can also be a bit spend happy. When things where at the worst I kept all his cards and even now only I have the key to our weekly bill box. We don't have a joint account anymore but no need as we both have complete access to each others accounts and split the bills /dd/so between them. I can understand why this may not be the case sometimes with people, such as not living together, new relationship and so on, just wondering what other peoples thoughts are about this subject. Am I just particulary harsh with OH:o
I won £10 today through DS1 school monthly raffle, only paid £1 so £9 profit all of which is going into the savings pot:jSuccess means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Johnny Cash
