    Afternoon.

Here's an interesting one for you all. Logged onto online banking at lunchtime to discover that my ex-husband's cousin had credited my bank account with an FP for £500. (She has significant personal wealth).

Now I am debt-free, a single mother of 2 teenage daughters and ridiculously careful with my money (and proud of it!). I have an emergency fund, I have a surplus each month. We live well (the MSE way), but there is no doubt £500 would be a big boost.

I'm not telling you (yet) what I've done.

    What would you do?

    Thanks everyone!

Ohhhh £500 credit...does she want to credit my account lol!

I can safely say I would say thank you; but kind of want to know why she had done it. I always think people have alterior motives. Is that bad?xx

Wow. What an amazing thing to happen!

I'm not entirely sure what I'd do... perhaps something with 2 daughters which wouldn't usually be affordable??? My mind is now racing :)

Hello, just thought I should own up to lurking around! As you can see from my siggie, I'm not quite there yet, but I will be soon enough (very much at that impatient bit, like when you're almost finished your journey home and the last little bit is taking forever 'cos you just want to be sitting at home with your feet up and a cuppa!). And you all seem to be asking the same questions that are already buzzing around in my head.

Wow! Just wanted to say what an amazing job you've done clearing so much in such a short time :D you'll be joining us "properly" in no time!

On another note I have the details on the new job and how to apply. Its a whole 2 pay grades above me; which makes me feel its out of reach but I fit the essential criteria so I can only apply. Closing date the 27th January 2011. Wish me luck (Looks at lenthly form and wants to cry!) x

Best of luck with the application & job .......

Your experience at the Drs took me back to one of the most humiliating experiences of my life ....... went to the Dr (local one, had been going for years) after an "accident" with my BF for the morning after pill. Saw the Dr who was a locum and he said that was fine ..... went out the room (leaving the door open), through to reception and then bellowed at the top of his voice "what morning after pill do you prescribe here". Now, imagine my horror as I realised if I could hear him - everyone in the waiting room would've done too:( (one of these open plan places)...... I was scarlet when I walked out - had I been older I would've complained - nearly 20 years later it still makes me cringe!

Great news and what a lovely person.....:D

For me, atm, it would be going into the non-existent emergency fund!:o

However, if all my budgets were up to date / emergency fund OK ..... it'd go to the holiday fund.

What are you going to do?:)

Samtoby I am in a similar position at the moment, Except I am having to apply for my own job (massive restructuring going on) I am also sitting looking at the form and trying not to panic! As you say better to have tried and failed than not to try at all so I will have a go!

backinbusiness if I was sure it was not a mistake, I would keep it and thank them for the lovely thought !

niccatw I totally understand how you feel, I only became debt free this month and thought the end(or start , whatever way you want to put it) would never arrive. It is a great feeling and look forward to the day you can say your debt free !

SOT2011 I am like you I make decisions to tidy and declutter then I start, make a bigger mess then give in ! As long as my house is clean and REASONABLY tidy I can live with it !

JulieGeorgiana glad you are all settling in as a wee family, I think you are always more chilled out with a second baby and can actually enjoy it ! I know I did anyway

Rising nothing worse than a bad nights sleep especially at the beginning of a week, I always feel you never really catch up.

Have received a rather large PPI claim, because we have not yet received the final discharge letter from the TD, half of it has been sent to trustee to help give a better yield to our creditors (only hubby was in TD so we keep “my” half). The rest, a rather large amount, well it is to us, is safely in a savings account. I feel rich, don’t laugh but I honestly do, still don’t want to spend any money though but think that’s a good thing for the moment anyway ! :T

  • Hi all.

Re the £500 credit. As AlyBaly says, I'm not sure there hasn't been some mistake. And as SamToby says - not sure of the motivation, although I can't see any possible ulterior motive. We live at opposite ends of the country and rarely see one another. She wouldn't be aware of my financial situation good or bad.

At the moment I've just sent a text saying "Hello. How are you? I received a transfer into my account from you - not sure why. Hope all is well!.

    It's a weird one - will update when I get a reply.

As for what to do with it - the MSE part of me says "save, save, save" and the not quite so MSE part of me says "holiday, holiday, holiday!"

  • Went shopping today... anyone else find all the prices rose BIG TIME this week? I mean 20% rises on some products...! On the money-sdie of things we managed Sausages and Mash for dinner! So things are back on track :D

BiB I would put some in my childrens savings and some in mine and maybe spend a small amount on a treat

    Sam Good luck x

    Rising Whoops!

Aly i've been there... the threat of redundancy is scary. But after being through it twice myself I can say that IF it does happen there are blessings alongside each time. I will cross fingers for you that things go well x

    Hi everyone,

I should never have looked at flylady again yesterday - I now have the cleanest tea, coffee and sugar pots (level 3) & for good measure all the oven racks have been through the DW twice (coupled with foil on the bottom this is my cheats way of keeping the oven clean) & are sparkling but the floor is still quite grotty - not really the point of flylady!

Oooh Rising, I am blushing for you, even after all those years!

BiB - that seems like a good way to approach it, better to know sooner than later if she has made a mistake, but if it does turn out that it was deliberate (which I hope it was as that would be lovely), it would be nice to be able to thank her properly. As for what to do with it - I would try to find a balance between save & spend - save a proportion, but do something nice & different to usual if you can with the rest to make it memorable, when my mum very kindly gives me some extra it is usually with the intention of me treating myself, and she does like to find out that I have treated myself with at least part of it.

Julia - I didn't notice in particular this week but it was a fairly minimal shop as I am trying to use mainly stores and freezer this week so didn't buy much. Probably means will be  when I do a full shop next week. Did notice there seemed to be fewer offers in store on the sort of things I usually buy though.

Samtoby & Aly - best wishes to you both with your applications. Keep in mind your best points! Muster as much inner confidence as you can manage and don't dwell on any perceived negatives, thinking positive will help to take you a long way & hopefully you can transmit that through your applications and interviews. There is a while to go till the closing date so maybe little and often is the way to go at it Samtoby, chipping away gradually, though try to make sure you give yourself time to have a day without looking at it at all, then go back and read it right through before you submit it as it is often easier to spot the little errors/where it doesn't quite flow with a fresh eye:)
