just took the cat to the vets! He's 5KG!!!!!!!! we knew we had a problem... but we had him down from 4.5kg last Jan, to 4kg in the summer... and now... HE'S FAT! Thing is the two cats eat 1/3rd of a tin of wet food between them a day and hard food they get enough for 1.5 cats... and Princess eats most of that and she's 3.4kg! Plus the hard food bowl is NEVER empty! Vet and I agree he's sneaking into houses and stealing food (I know which two as well) I do hope when we move it'll help... I don't want him to suffer because he's overweight but i can't do anything! This all started when one neighbour thought he was a stray and started to feed him LOADS and now he's just always hungry and on the lookout! I should give her my vet bills!

I know how you feel ..... my boy is huge and looks practically ill he's so thin (but he eats very well & is healthy - has been checked at the vets) - they have his ideal weight at 5.5kg (which is high for a cat) as he's so big and he's only 4.8kg - I just can't get any weight onto him...

Wee cat on the other hand ... weighs more than him - she's due her booster soon and I know I'm going to get another "telling off" from the vet but just don't know what to do as I have to leave food down to try to get weight onto him but tbh, she really doesn't eat that much - but doesn't get a lot of exercise as she's a "gammy knee"......
Oh, I am so proud of myslef tonight... I have been so poorly I haven't been able to cook without getting dizzy in the kitchen... today I cooked chilli for the boys, they were over the moon as it's been 8 months since I cooked a 'proper' meal (DH has been doing the cooking) and it went down really well! And I realised how much I missed cooking... can't wait until Roo is here and i can start doing it all again :D

ETA I did write a bit in here but it's gone :( Something along the lines of:

:j:j Great to hear you're feeling better (and a sleep is totally acceptable:)). Come on Baby Roo - your mummy, daddy and BB are waiting to meet you!:)
Rising i had 4 lots of reconstructive surgery done on my knees from Dec 2007- Dec 2008 which is why I got so large (Gained 6 stone over the course, plus some before from not being abole to walk). I know how hard it can be to worry about your weight when being unable to walk and move about. But you shouldn't worry, once you can, just start walking a little and build yourself up and give yourself time to heal without pushing yourself. No need to diet so much as just build yourself back up to where you were.

Also, what you have planned financially to get ahead sounds great, it's really good to have goals and aims and I know that by Christmas you will be telling us how much has changed over the last year :D

Ps. What kind of Dog are you getting? A Lab?

Thanks ... it's really depressing when you know you need to lose it but you just can't do anything IYSWIM - dieting is really difficult for me (as everyone!) due to my dietry limitations as I can't eat a lot of veg etc.....

Re dog - probably a Lab (at heart, I am a "Lab person") as having had them both from being a little girl and since I've grown up, I know & understand & love the breed so much .... but ... I will consider other breeds if the right one comes along (there is quite a long list of "nos" due to own circs eg those that need a lot of exercise / stimulation etc).

Well, I've just been and renamed the "savings" pot to "Groceries & Fuel" - there was a measly £6.66:eek::eek: *inset music from The Omen* left in it (which was freaking me out a bit if I'm honest) after covering all the emergencies last month .... have topped it off to £20, so that's the 1st months fuel "catch up" done:j. Also topped the emergency fund up to £20 (had £9 in it - again due to the "bad month").

Neither are a lot but it's a start .... and I'm sure I can manage without small amount that's now come off my "spends" for the month!

Really helps to chat on here :D - thanks everyone!:T

  • JG Shame nothing! I'm not about to have a baby!!! If it hadn't been for going to work I'd have been lazing around the house.

I did also buy some clear acrylic coasters from ebay. I thought for the friends I like to get a token gift to for birthdays, I could do some cross stitch coasters. I did one for MIL for Christmas and she was thrilled with it.

We have been invited to MIL & FIL's for dinner on Friday. She's and excellent cook and it's 'free food'! :D Need to re-jig the meal planner though as we'll be ameal in hand. I also had a rumage through the freezer to try and establish some of the contents. Lots of salmon, but DH is alergic to salmon...

Also out shortly as me and Mr Diz are on the local pub cards team. The Landlady always does a tray of sandwiches after we all finish, so a piece of cheese on toast will tide us over to semi-free food.

rising; re the dog situation. Great incentive to get some regular exersize, not to mention the security perspective. Might be worth a little look around. If you had another, would you get a puppy or re-home an older one?

Ohhhhh def an older one :D - somewhere around 3 to 5 perferably ...... none of the rescues will rehome to me as I work (despite going out for 30 - 45 mins before work, 45 - 60 mins after work & being able to come home at lunchtimes .....:(). Still holding out hope that one may change their mind but currently looking through private rehoming ads (not my 1st choice as there as so many needing homes in rescues)

  • Rising DH bulb went in the car this morning, and out emergency fund for this month is empty! So I know what you mean about scary because my only options left are to rob peter to pay paul (and I did that for the iron yesterday)!! Oh well... there is always DS savings account... ;)

I have two over weight rabbits too (they went on a diet and GAINED weight), they eat 1/3rd of the recommeded amount of food... but they eat so much wood and cardboard I am sure that's it...! Why is it so hard to look after pets? Then there is princess and I get told off she's too thin... she is only 4, never goes out much and is a sweetie... but she has the equivalent to 'down syndrome' and just isn't normal... she can pick a ham hock bone clean (and is missing most her teeth!)!!! i hope you get a new dog soon, they are just so much part of the family. And labs are just the best dogs... we will get one once all our children are old enough :D

Ref. weight. I know it's hard, i found it hard too... and it was my Dr who said I had to focus on one thing at a time. So I did! And I got there in the end :D

I am finding the chat on here motivational... I thought my finances were good... but you are all so supportive that I found so much I can change, and imporve (hence the solid goals) and I feel much more in control. I think being so poorly and not being in control of what I could eat, so no menu plan, no food shopping, cravings etc etc has made me loose control (and it's cost us a lot financially too) and this thread has seen me back on track :D

Dizzy don't we all love 'free food' :)

Jiggling the meal plan is what gets me too! Which reminds me I need a juggle... the chilli did 8 portions instead of 6! Might be because I dropped the bag of peppers in it and ended up with 300g in there! Hehehe!

I live near a road... 6 years later I am still waiting for a cat which is 'indoor only' to be re-homed! i told them if they didn't give me a cat, then I would have no choice but to get a kitten... which is exactly what they don't want you to do! I will never understand why so many animals are put down... yet there are people who can take them...!

    Some advice please....

I have no debt left last debt finished in December. Whooppppeee!

I have a T Mobile phone account since July 2011 which has green lights and two Llyods current accounts which have had green lights for years.
But I have defaults for loans, credit cards, finance agreements from 2003 (I was 18) until 2009. These were accounts held with my ex who has an IVA but I paid all my stuff myself which has crippled me for years. And years and yes....you get the general idea. We do not have a financial relationship on any credit reporting sites.

I have spoken to my bank and they say my credit score is ok with them but I just have a standard account and this is all they can offer at present. Reviewable in 6 months. But to apply for credit and see what happens. I understand a banks score is theres and not anywhere else. Where do I go? I am saving for a mortgage and I have been advised that I would be accepted with a 15% deposit - well by one lender who is not my bank. What could I do to help my credit score more before I apply for mortages? The credit card with the 'V' name part of Provident has declined me. I just want to use it for petrol etc and pay off monthly. I know one company is good but I'd love to improve my score more in the months to come so I may have more choice.

    xx

  • Hi Sam ... congratulations on becoming DF:j

With regard to the defaults - they should fall off after 6 years from the dates they were issued - so the ones dated 2003 should be long gone .... anything before 8 January 2006 should be gone!:D

If these are still showing on your credit file, then you can get in touch with the reference agency for them to be removed.

See how many are outstanding, when they're due to come off, if they're "settled", "part settled" or "unsettled" and decide what you want to do with them (eg pay them off, take the chance and leave them until they fall off).

Re rebuilding your credit rating - credit cards (used for a set thing eg fuel as you've suggested) & paid in full each month are a great way of doing this.... however, if you've been refused for one (when was this - was it before some of the defaults fell off?) then I'd hang off around 6 months before trying again & check your credit files again before applying again.

Any searches will be recorded on your credit file for *I think* up to a year so applying again & again isn't a good idea.

HTH:) Please drop by for a cuppa & a chat anytime!:D

  • I believe its a year too... and three searches considerably lowers your score.

    I think.

Welcome Sam. Congratulations on being debt free :)

I find the chats (or is it rambings?) very helpful too, so thanks to anyone who's bothered to read them! I think it's having the opportunity to reveal our idiosyncratic tendencies without fear of being judged. I would never tell some of my friends what I've told you lot :D

Congratulations on becoming DF :T. Perhaps at the moment you should just concentrate on enjoying a few months without the pressure of debt hanging over you. In 6 months look at the situation again and if you still feel its right to have a credit card , apply again then. Good luck over the coming weeks and months!

Back from the pub. Lots of free food :o won't need to eat for ages now...

To everyone who has an animal of odd size, i empathise. I also have cat with no teeth (RSPCA on verge of putting her to sleep 12 yrs ago, yet here she is going strong), the 3 legged canine wonder, and Poo, the cog. Or is that a dat? Anyway its a dog who thinks she's a cat, can actually purr and is addicted to broad beans. None of them are normal eaters, though all reasonably healthy in their own unique ways I suppose. But no, it's not easy. And that's before I even start on the chickens ;)

Just watched the end of Robin Hood (one of my favourite films) and now to bed I think. Off to dream of my spreadsheets, charts and targets.

Just read the post back. Is idiosyncratic the word I want? I think it is and I've got a vague idea what I'm on about!!!!!! Hope you all know what I mean.

    Night all, night Roo!
I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions...
  • Roo and I are still here! Been having a few aches and pains so we are hopeful (HAH!) but I am feeling very positive about the sweep on Thursday... It kind of hit me last night... I'm going to have a baby!

Snap! You hit the nail on the head! My friends already think I am potty... and they don't know about my spreadsheets...

My Princess rolls over like a dog, knaws on bones and barks! Maybe they were seperated at birth???
