A Year of Living Frugabulously

We zipped off to the post office - bitingly cold wind out there - sent the parcel for my sister & bought a book of second class stamps; total cost was about £6.30 but I did get a £2 coin so happy with that.
Popped in to the co op on the way home to see if there were any crumpets ... not one, no bread either but there wee packs of teacakes reduced to 49p so we got 2 of those & then rushed home asap.
We'd just sat down with toasted teacakes & cups of tea & the phone rang; the delivery company to say they could bring the sofa on Friday :shocked:Yes, this Friday:eek: just 40 hours away & between 7 & 12 .
I squeaked something about having to get rid of christmas stuff & the man laughed & then offered to delay the delivery ... but to be honest, it might as well come asap. I'm not at work anyway, so won't have to organise a delivery around work hours, for a weekend or on my day off. I was getting bored of looking at the tree & decorations, had no plans for friday anyway & it will definitely make me get up early tomorrow & start tidying.
DD & her BF want the old [STRIKE]torture rack[/STRIKE] sofa for their place so if I could just store it until then, it would be great, "pop it in the garage" she said :rotfl:
This thing is sooooo heavy, we can barely shift it a few inches, let alone carry it down the stairs, along the road & behind the house to the garage _pale_.
Aside from the logistical nightmare, this also means that the purchase is going to appear on the January CC bill _pale_.
See, this thread reveals the perils & consequences of impulse CC purchasing in all their naked glory
Not so damn frugal now am I :rotfl:

Hi Lula,
haven't been on much, so sorry to hear about your Grandmother, (hugs)
I too I am on the cc debt removalness. like the sofa plans tho. I was going to suggest offering the old sofa on Freecycle? but since DD2 wants it.......hmmm. I would be encouraging her and beefy BF to move it to the garage
Your Christmas day sounded quite lovely btw
xxxxNevertheless she persisted.0 -

Gosh, Lula, what a lot is happening! I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother - but I can understand you being sort of accepting of it too; its sure to be there, of course, and I hope you're doing okay with it.
Your sofa! I'm dying to get a new sofa - I want faux leather, tbh, even tho it can be a bit skanky. Interesting about the delivery being brought forward by the firm themselves - makes me think the universe is telling you you're right to have a lovely new sofa!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Exactly what I thought & I didn't order before christmas because they said delivery would be 6 weeks ... mind you that was at full price though so best this way

Welcome back KC :j
I'm doing fine thank you, kinda pushed it to the back of my mind for now, but no doubt will have to deal with it more deeply once funeral arrangements are imminent, thank you & Buffy too for your kind words :A.
I really did like some of the leathery sofas however, much as they look lovely I had a BF with one & in short my feelings on them are : Winter = cold & slippery, Summer = hot & sticky + Cat = scratch marks :mad:.
Rather like the 2 seater sports car I yearn for, I think smart furniture can wait until there are only adults around :rotfl:
The hunky BF is already on standby with his equally hunky younger brother for removal services. Trouble is there's already the bookcase & 2 side tables + DDs suitcase in the garage + the 6ft bright pink shark so it's getting a bit cosy in there for my poor car :rotfl:
Actually, I can forsee a rental opportunity if only I can install a window & facilities

G'morning all,
I had a fantastic night's sleep & feel much improved. For the last few nights naughty cats have been coming in through the catflap & skulking about & eating up His Royal Furriness's leftovers. Noisily .
I've always been loathe to lock the cat flap in case said HRF desperately need to pee during the night ... last night I didn't care though & locked the flap. HRF has woken up, stretched a paw, eaten some breakfast but still not ventured outside, so his bladder is clearly larger than mine :rotfl:
No 4am cat visitors last night :j
Washing marvel is on, full of towels, yesterdays washing is all folded & in the magic airing cupboard, I've had my coffee & toast & there are just 2 mini mince pies, half a tin of biscuits, some stilton & about a quarter of a bottle of vicious gin to finish off. I've been having a large glass each night & pledge to only buy Gordon or the pretty blue one from now on. It's been hard work getting through that bottle ... but someone's got to do it
.
Still have all the wine left ( 1 mulled, 3 x rose, 1 x 2 white & 1 x red) so that should last me a while as I'm determined to only drink at the weekends & not buy any more until that lot has gone.
DD is still in bed, no doubt finishing off the last of the trilogy of books I bought her. The girl can certainly read quickly, fortunately she is happy to re read books time & again, whereas I rarely do until years later.
My lovely aunt is sending me some books as a gift & I still have about 10 of the ones my neighbour gave me + the ones I've bought myself & I can then move on to DDs collection if necessary, so I really wont need to be buying any books in 2012.
I think now might be a good time to write a list of all the things I WONT be buying in 2012 ...0 -
 I think I'd quite like a bright pink shark

Better make do with a sofa tho :rotfl: isn't it funny about experiences - whats made me want one is visiting my designer friend who lives in Docklands - she's got a corner suite, which I don't have room for, but I lurve hanging out in her living room just for the posh lounging around :rotfl:
Have a good'un today
