Christmas always reminds me of how many gaps there are around our table now but its getting easier these days as the time passes. Raise a glass, have a moment of reflection then move on to today.

Sorry to hear about your nan (you've made a pregnant woman a bit weepy with your last post!); I hope remembering her full life and the affection you both shared brings you some comfort.

Hello all & welcome to plzhelmesave - so sad to hear you lost your mum on christmas day, it must be a tough time of year for you.
Thank you all for such kind posts, I really did have a nice christmas inspite of sad events before hand. DD & I spent christmas eve doing all the food prepping we could, tidying & rearranging furniture to fit things in.
I found myself cleaning the bathroom at 11.30 pm & washing the floors about an hour after that - may seem like madness, but other than whizzing the hoover round yesterday, I've no intentions of doing any other cleaning or chores until the weekend
.
DD & I were up about 8 on christmas day, opened pressies, finished prepping & then spent some quality time playing mario kart on the wii. DD was in hysterics as I am utter rubbish at it. Seriously, if you saw my attempts you would never get in a real life car with me :rotfl:.
My Dad & DD1 arrived about 1 & we set about getting the food on the go. I did consume a fair amount of booze & at one point was juggling mulled wine, G&T, white wine & a coffee
.
I don't think I'm very good at estimating portions as so used to just catering for DD & myself, so we ended up with huge amounts of left over veg, but I threw all that in my cauldron today & turned it into very tasty soup. I wasn't keen on the turkey thing so shared that out between the birds & the foxes. DD is valiantly chomping her way through the crisps & biscuits, while the yule log & mince pies just glare at me while I grimaced back.
I decided to ignore the fact that siblings have avoided me & sent them all a text to wish them a happy day, they all responded but I do wonder if I would have heard from them if I hadn't made the first move .
The sis who originally wanted to visit for boxing day, did not mention it at all & sent gifts over with my Dad after a last minute visit to him on christmas eve so I now need to send her gift. I've not responded to her half hearted text instructing me to let her know if I'm free to meet up any other time this week. It really doesn't suit me to stress over making arrangements to see someone who clearly would rather spend time with their partner, when I would actually prefer to spend the time with my DDs
.
Dad stayed until about 9 that night & said he'd thoroughly enjoyed himself - well with me doing the Wii Just Dance routines with DD - you'd have to be made of stone not to laugh
. After he'd gone we all got into our pyjamas & spent the rest of the evening watching tv, chatting & grazing. It was a lovely evening, & with DD1 about to buy a place with her BF, it may well be the last time just the 3 of us are all together.
I was really pleased to get all the socks & the pashmina I'd asked for as it means less Clothes Challenge spending required
. I also received an M&S gift card so can add that to the fund as well. DD was delighted with her new Converse hi tops & has gifted me her old ones which are in great condition, just too small so that = more money saved as I won't grow out of them any time soon
.
I have fallen prey to a teeny bit of online sales shopping
I just couldn't resist the large tubs of Body Shop body butters & body scrubs at just £5 each so bought 2 of each & as I already have a stash of the summer flavoured ones from the last sale, I'm now thoroughly stocked up to see me through for the next year. In order to qualify for free delivery I added a couple of the small gift cubes & some body wash to go with an unopened body cream I already have, which makes up 3 small gifts for the stash
.
I'm sure there are many bargains to be had out there in the sales, but I really cant think of anything worse to do, so we're quite happy to let everyone else get their kicks doing that, while we chill out at home: reading, watching tv, pottering & generally resting & restoring our energy & going out for walks
I do still want to get a new sofa next year but am veering towards applying for the 0% M&S CC ... ok, so I'm not actually saving towards the purchase, but I will earn some points/prizes out of it if I use the CC.
I've not spent any money since last Thursday & did take the lantern back to the store for a refund. This credit has now actually been cancelled out by the Body Shop purchases, but I've now paid £400 off the CCCCC so just another £200 to go & it will be clear again
.
I still have £65 in my purse & other than milk or bread, have no need of shopping until at least the weekend so wont need to withdraw any cash from the bank for (hopefully) another 10 days.
Well, I think that's all the updates done so must get back to see if any more new [STRIKE]victims[/STRIKE] enthusiasts have joined the 2012 Clothes Challenge.
Bye for now
