A Year of Living Frugabulously

I know what you mean about Tatco...I hate them as they are the most arrogant store on the planet. They rip off farmers and suppliers and treat customers like idiots and I find they aren't cheaper than anyone else and their special offers are rather dubious.
Glad you've got your new stuff and hopefully the maiden voyage went well0 -
Hmm, no, that doesn't sound fabulously frugal at all ... I love that you and little DD are of one mind tho
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Oooh, a challenge! easy peasy i say
go for it! :T :T
As for me living in a rambling 'multi-bedroomed mansion with both main & 'staff entrances' in a posh part of town & have many treasures ...' :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: We live in a 1910 end of terrace, officially with 3 bedrooms I believe (although only one of them has a bed in and is actually knocked through to the floor above, whic wasn't classed as a bedroom). We do have many treasures, although pretty much all of them come from either charity shops or skips, and wolud probably be classed as 'clutter' rather than 'treasure'
I am, however, very proud of the fact that this year we have FINALLY manged to open the front door, after 20 years of it being sealed shut, so we now have both a back AND a front door - which clearly sends us several rungs up the ladder :T :T
(er, radioactive sheep??)0 -
I hardly ever go into Tatco. The only one we have is in the town centre so no good for big weekly shops. I could drive for 15 mins for one near work but doesn't seem worth it. I've had my clubcard for 18 months and have about 8 points on it

Go for it. I think once a store makes you feel uncomfortable it's time to vote with your feet and go elsewhere - beside sainsbugs has a much better class of customer
at least, round here they do

Hello your lovelinesses,
Karma & Cheery - not really radioactive, I'm embellishing; they're just very large sheep & the delightful orange glow from the M-way make them look a bit funny
Cherryjack - yes my lovely, Tatco is what I call that place ( I believe it's a term now widely used across DFW :rotfl:) Taxi & I are as one on this monstrosity & anyone with enough time on their hands to have followed my previous diaries will know that I have a deep & pathological loathing of the place; but during the last 4 years, for reasons of debt busteriness I've tried to hold my supermarket snobbery at bay & done a fair bit of shopping there, mainly because the nearby alternatives for a large shop were Waitrose (my first love) & M&S (for people with more money than sense).
Gosh, that was a long sentence. Will be more liberal with the full stops in future.
In the town where I now work there is a Sainsbugs & I've started shopping there more often, but it's not the largest of stores so doesn't carry the huge range of bulk buy household items that Tatco does.
I now have enough stock of household items to last us months - been squirreling away bogofs & offers for a few weeks now - & thanks to this morning's trip to Waitrose where they had my fave eco washing up liquid for just £1.50 a bottle, I grabbed 3 & now my store cupboard is complete
.
Yes, I've been paid for home-job, paid for work-job & I was pulling into Waitrose car park at 8.10 this morning while DD slept. It was very civilised in there & I got everything I needed & just a few bits I didn't  eg orange & cinnamon tea lights are not essential, but wow do they smell gorgeous.
I remembered my new members card & the vouchers so got a free bag of sweets, free roll of fabby wrapping paper & then £5 off my shopping :T
It still came to £76 but £16 of that was on tealights, household bits & a yoyo for DD. I also spent another £6 on chocs, but that was to replace the ones we've already scoffed
:rotfl:.
I then took all the charitized stuff in so another job done, all that remains now is to return the lantern & get new lights for the tree - they died, but today the lovely Boots delivery is due so we're hanging about here & slowly clearing up. I'm rather embarassed about the Boots delivery as it's all my stuff but does mean that I'm sorted for beauty stuff for a while.
I feel as though all I've done for the last 3 months is buy, buy, buy ... but it has all been with a purpose in mind & I promise that I will amaze you with my frugabulosity in 2012
(I'll be bluddy amazed myself too if I do manage it :rotfl:)
Well, at least where buying stuff is concerned ... we'll be getting out & about a lot more, so the fun budget is getting a payrise .
The CCCCC balance must be horrendous by now - I guesstimate about £600  so need to go spend some quality time with a calculator & list of debits & standing orders & bills in a minute.
I shall report back later ...0 -
Hmm orange and cinnamon tea-lights, I have one lit at the moment!Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

There were some bargains in our Wa1trose last night: very posh stuffing from over £2 down to 30p (use by date Dec 2013!) and some posh chocolate - caramel and sea salt? - from over £2 to 40p. Can't remember the brand as packaging is in the recycling at home.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.
