A Year of Living Frugabulously

Hi Lula
Can totally see what you mean about Christmas - though my lot don't really make an effort at all, so I am doing similar to Dragon and going up beforehand. I don't officially celebrate it either, so I am starting my own traditions at Yule this year instead. Involving hot mulled cider, friends and chocolate :T
Aren't libraries great? :j

Hi Palema & welcome to LulaLand :hello: ( not to be confused with Lala Land, although there are definite similarities :rotfl:) Really ? 17 pages already ?
Crumbs I do chat a lot ... do hope some of it is relevant & has value other than the comedy variety.
Rosa - your Yule celebrations sounds ideal, I might come to yours
. I've been perusing the Eden Project advent blog & am very keen to try making one of these
Watching Vanilla Sky at the moment, & trying to suss out what on earth is going on .0 -

You're very welcome
That Eden tree is rather cute. I haven't got round to doing deccies yet, and am away next weekend so probably doing it after that... the wall-tree would certainly save space. (I'd prefer a real one but having carefully watered my potted one all through most of last summer, it dried out in the week I got distracted and is now only green on the last two inches of each branch - not very festive
)

...are possible!
You can get gel skins that are self adhesive, you can design them yourself - make your Kindle unique
(I have no connection with this, or any other of the million skin design companies - ooh, that sounds )0 -
When this happens do you wonder what is left going into your hand and fingers? (if anything......) :eek:Yesterday was Blood Donation day - keeping the karma topped up
& the poor nurse had to abandon her first attempt & start again on the other arm. My blood flows so slowly that it actually stopped :rotfl:. In the end it took over half an hour to get the stuff out so I had a very lengthy lie down. I've been told to take a stress ball with me next time & might have a quick run round the car park first too just to get it going
.I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.0 -
Of course your diary is valuable for other than fun - the combination you have of fun and moneysaving and determination and greenery is very inspiring, Lula. For instance, I didn't know that the Eden Project (which I've been to) had a blog. I clicked your link, and saw the Christmas tree on the wall project. I don't think I can do it for this Christmas with my current energy levels, but you've given my Christmas a new lease of life there.
For the past ten years or so, I've always had a big branch of ash tree as my Christmas tree - with the black tips of the buds, and painted gold, its really beautiful. But my house is now much smaller, and there isn't really the space for it. I was going to do a tiny little thing three feet high, with a mini branch, but that looks really weak. The Christmas tree in the blog is *much* better! It won't be like theirs, it'll be made with branches out of the garden, but it will be beautiful, and covered in Christmas deccies I've collected over the years.
Thank you!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
It's definitely a PITA arranging who is to be where at Christmas.I don't have room for a tree in this house either but could now have a small one on top of the cabinet next year maybe so something to look out for.0

Good afternoon my lovelies,
Thanks Mags_cat for the link to prettifying the kindle ... still not getting one though
.
Karma - since our visit to Eden Project in the summer, I'm on a mailing list so get all sorts of info. Glad it inspired you, although I do like the sound of your ash branch
I confess that I do have a tree & that it's not real  I used to have a real one every year as my mother would get free ones from her workplace. I was never that enamoured with them though as to be still hoovering up the needles in June, became rather tiresome. I eventually decided to invest in a good quality artificial one & I've never regretted it
.
This will actually be the first year that it won't be difficult to find a place to put it, but we still have windfall branches from the garden that we decorate too.
I hung the laundry out on the line earlier but had to do the mad sprint to the garden about an hour ago as the clouds were leaking ... consequently we have the airer over the bath.
I chopped & steamed a load of veg which is now roasting. DD enquired as to where the protein was so I'm now frantically trying to defrost some chicken fillets & wondering how to combine the 2 in a satisfactory way for her :undecided.
I've not really achieved much more than yesterday, time seems to be wafting by today. DD1 & her BF are arriving later & we're all off to the cinema together. My fridge is now empty bar the veg seeds, milk, juice, butter & 3 apples so I couldn't invite them for a meal :obut at least nothing at all has been thrown away.
I'm not worrying about gifts anymore, I have the holiday fund at my disposal & I'm happy to use some of that to make life easier.
Will report cinema spends later, I very much doubt it will all be covered by the £20 I have in the entertainment fund :rotfl:0 -
We've got the old one my parents had when they got married (they've been divorced for 28 years :rotfl: :rotfl:). I love it - I think Mr Daffs wouldn't mind if it went in the bin
Very late 70s. We also usually have a branch from either the garden or the local woods - the first year we did it we kept it and it's still hanging over the kitchen window - we keep jewelry on it

Yep, I love my tree too - what I forgot to type in is that it takes up too much space in this house, there's no floor area thats spare!
Cheery, I love the thought of your parents' late 70s tree! No idea what it would look like, mind
And loving the windfall branches
