  • Thanks for that. Thought you had to completely cover with liquid! Will the meat not get too dry though? What is the saucer for?!

    No it won't get too dry.

    The saucer is to lift the meat out of the liquid a little so that you don't get quite such a "boiled beef" effect. The juices that you finish up with are ideal for making either gravy or stock.

    Both! I'm new to this! I've cooked a grill pan tghinking there was something on it, so why not a saucer in the SC?!

    Can anyone tell me how to cook jacket potatoes in the slow cooker? I have no microwave and my oven is carp, i've just had to cook ours for tea in my mams microwave but i'd like to try them in the slow cooker next time if they'll work.

    I've eventually got the hang of soft rolls, now the next problem, they always end up 'flat' . I roll them into balls, place them on the tray then they spread themselves out getting all comfy and flat! It's only a pain because when I slice them they become even thinner and tend to split. Any ideas on how to keep them from going flat?
    One day I might be more organised...........:confused:

    • too much liquid; reduce the amount of water by 1 tbsp, check the dough during kneading
    • you forgot the salt
    • too much sugar
