Need to use some potatos up so was going to make spicy wedges. Is it just wedge shapes covered in paprika (with oil first) then bake? Any other suggestions - can't find the thread form a few months ago!

I own a breadmaker and any loaf I seem to make come out heavy and not particularly edible - to the point where I am considering getting rid of the machine (Anthony Worrall Thompson bread maker).

I have always used dry yeast (so wondered if live yeast would make a difference?) high quality flour and even bought bread enhancer powder from lakeland.

So, any helpful suggestions, or shall I give up?

PS - cant find bread thread?

Are you sure that the machine is working? I've heard complaints before about heavy loaves and invariably it turns out that the machine was broken.

bread out a BM is heavyer than shop bought bread. i weighed mine once because it seemed so heavy, but turned out the 2lb loaf was a 2lb loaf. as to why it's not edible, im not sure, are you measuring all the ingredients exactly it is very important that they are. there should be a section in the booklet as well that covers problems with your BM.

Try using warm water or moving the bread maker somewhere warmer.

  • I have to use a lot of tins that get pretty yucky - oil for sardine tins, congealed fat for dog food tins etc, and have tried numerous ways of cleaning them before recycling but all are either very bothersome or not particularly money/planet saving (very hot water, lots of detergent, bleach, etc). Given that I don't have an option but to use the tins, does anyone have any easy, cheap and relatively greenish advice?
One friend helpfully suggested that if I lived in the jungle I could leave them out for the ants but I'm not sure this would go down well in central London!

Could be the thermostat. This happened with my BM years ago. I started getting bricks out of it when before the bread had risen beautifully. I got rid of it and make it by hand now. Far more convenient actually!
