I've got a beef casserole on the go and I've not got any cornflour to thicken stock  Is there anything else I can use to thicken it? I've got gravy granules or flour, will either of those do the trick?
Mix equal amounts of butter and flour - add to your casserole, stirring all the time. It should not go lumpy, merely thicken! This is called a 'buerre manie' and is a handy little trick for thickening soups, stews, casseroles and gravies. You can keep some in the freezer too!

So, 1oz butter with 1oz flour, beaten together well, then added to your dish while stirring all the time. Cook for a couple of minutes. If you have a lot of fluid in the casserole, try 2oz of butter to 2oz of flour and keep going until it thickens. It *will* thicken ;)

Does anyone have a food flask?

I`m considering buying one mainly for soup/porridge and i wondered how long they keep food hot, the two brands i`ve seen are Stanley and Alladin.

The ones I've seen have had a note on them saying they keep foot hot for X hours and cold for Y hours. Y is always a much longer time than X, and I think in one case X was 1 hour, which didn't seem like a lot of use to me!

So it might be worth unscrewing the lids and looking at the information leaflet inside ...

    market vs veg/fruit box?

i was using a veg box scheme but found it was a supplier that tesco also use but i started to find qualtiy was not as good and the items had to be used with 2/3 days of use (it was not organic and some of the food items had come from other countrys)

i liked the idea of it being delivered to my door but not the quality, dont mind using the market as i can choose what i like (you pick what you want they weight and its then paid for) downside is i wouldnt then buy some of the things ive tried in my veg box

I have a 'cereal bowl' full of leftover lamb from yesterday. OH wants to make a tikka masala but I do't think there's enough there for two of us. Any suggestions please? (Spicy is good!)

I have the same concerns as you regarding variable quality and food miles, which is why I've started using the farm shop (no markets near me). You could always set yourself a target of trying a new seasonal, local fruit or veg each month.

Make a bean or lentil side dish, and share the two.
