You can use olive oil.0
-
I saw on How Clean is your House a way of making polish. They mixed olive oil with lemon juice, poured it into a spray bottle & used that. I've done it & it can be hard work as you have to shine it up but the lemon juice removes sticky marks & the olive oil feeds the wood. The furniture came up beautifully when I did it. I was tempted to do the window sill but then had visions of flying cats :rotfl:so didn't! I didn't measure my quantities I poured a good glug of oil into my spray bottle & used a quarter of the amount of lemon juice before shaking it well. HTH0

A lot of people on here myself included dont' use spray have you tried damp dusting it works better as it gets rid of the dust rather than moves it around. I use a microfibre cloth but you could use a jeyes cloth and squeeze all the water out til its damp and them sweep over surface. I was a little sceptical at first especially as we have waxed pine furniture and I didn't want to get it wet but its fine and the dust can then be washed away rather that re-circulated.
Thanks Bunny200
I have been using just a damp cloth of late ... but it leaves the surface a little dull ... the wood has been teak oiled so it is ok with water based cleaners ... didn't know if I could mix a little something in ... would lemon juice work ... or would that make it duller? :rolleyes:LittleBill ... I'm another fan of a slightly damp microfibre cloth and then buffing up with a dry microfibre cloth.
If you want to make a polish, some people recommend olive oil as a substitute but I haven't tried it. This thread should help:
HM polish Old Style. A question.
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

This isnt necessarily a moneysaver, but it could be. I dont like Mr Sheen polishes because Im asthmatic, also I keep tropical fish and aerosols used near them can cause problems.
I am aware that I can buy beeswax to polish my table etc but when my husband cleans up he insists on a spray like Mr Sheen (dont like to discourage him), and he uses it on everything eg TV, bookshelves, windowsills, leather furniture etc. Is there a substitute for all surfaces or do we have to buy something different for each surface? NB Must be non aerosol, and if its a trigger spray, non toxic to fish!
Thanks!0 -
If your OH has to have a shop-bought spray rather than something home-made (vinegar, lemon etc) then what about something like Method? It's a bit dearer than standard stuff but a little goes a long way and it smells great.

They do an all purpose spray that you can use for everything and it costs about £3.Dum Spiro Spero0
