I think the olive oil is thicker and penetrates the wood better.
If you get it from Lidl or Aldi it is usually cheaper.

I also think that the lemon juice acts as a cleaning agent.

Usually the lemon is enough of a scent but a few drops of essential oil should not do any harm.

If you are going to keep the mixture then I use an old coffee jar and make sure the lid is airtight. This means I can shake the jar to remix if it starts to seperate and stops the contents going mouldy.

Oooo, I want to know this one too - I have almost finished my bottle of chemicals and really want to use oil and (hopefully) some essential oil drops. I have a glut of sunflower oil (left over from our deep fat frier days :o ), and would like to use that if it will be okay.

Hi TKp. I have now bought some Olive Oil, today. I haven't used it yet but i did make some more polish with Sunflower oil and a few drops of lemon juice again, this time i put some Wild Rose foaming bath essence as well, In my tidying up before xmas i have put the essence of lavender away and i can't find it, so i thought i wonder what would happen if i used a bit of bath essence. Well, when i shook up the jar, it foamed abit, but i applied it and let it dry, gave the buro a buffing and the buro looks and smell really nice. when i go into the room now it smells of Rose's. Just thought that i would share that with you.

Thank you :T . I can't wait to try mine now - I have olive oil, lemon juice and some essential oils to try (sweet orange and lemon). Maybe I should just give it a go tomorrow instead of using the chemical ones!

    Hi

First post here although I have posted on DFW.

    Problem

    My wife suffers with assma.

I suffer with cheap carriers (airosols, budget perfumes, scented candles) they send me dizzy and eventually make me hungry and tired, real perfumes however do not. I also cannot come into contact with alovera and pine wood sap.:rotfl:

For the past few years we have been using Orange oil based polishes for wood iether bottle spray or wipes. It looks like you are now unable to get these products. You can get multi srface but this is too harsh for real wood! Fortunately our house is ful of real wood not laminated chipboard but it does present us with a problem.

    Has anyone any ideas :T

Was going to suggest kabanos, but then realised you're asking about polish not Polish ;):o

Have you tried beeswax polish. Comes in a tin, apply on a duster, and it smells lovely.

I make my own polish using an equal amount of lemon juice and olive oil.

I put it in a lidded glass jar and shake it up before I use it.

You only need a tiny amount and it really nourishes the wood.

John Lewis do a lovely natural lavender solid polish in a tin and you apply with a cloth and then buff it up. You just use sparingly and you don't have to use it all the time, just now and again and you can use a very very slightly damp cloth to dust in between times, so that the dust doesn't fly everywhere.

I had been looking out for 'Orange GLo' in the shops. Used to get it at Lakeland and really liked it. Shame you can't get it, cos I've run out!
