ive had infinity over a year now and have a 37mb connection.
Much better than the 2mb i had before

Do you mind me asking, B - how much were you paying for 2mb and how much are you paying now? I'm assuming Infinity is only recently available in my area, hence the marketing phone call.

the £28 a month option is, the £18 a month option is limited to 40gb
  • Have you used the site Sam knows to see what deals if any can be obtained from your exchange?
If infinity available, there may be other better and cheaper options.
We are very rural and our exchange is not even on the list for 2014 for infinity so when I recently renewed I got an all in deal for £31.60 per month until the price rises to £32.30 in December bill. Discounted down as we are on 8mb/s but in reality get 2mb/s most times. Oh that includes anytime calls free upto hour for 90% of numbers, which I now need for hospitals and other medical stuff.

The 40gb option also reduces the upload speed to 2mb.

Just checked my usage for October and it is just about 40gb for a family of 4 who live on the net. The problem is that with infinity you will use your broadband more for streaming video etc.

Anyone know of any deals going for existing BT customers?

What exchange are you connected to and how far are you from the exchange ? I am assuming you are a fair distance from your exchange.

The exchanges are being changed over to the 21CN network which can mean faster speeds. It depends why you are only getting 2 Meg.

I am about 2 mile from my exchange and down a lane with overhead cables and trees rubbing against them! However I regularly get a sync rate of over 7Meg which gives me an actual 5.5Meg download rate. Plusnet have just told me that my exchange is being upgraded in the next month and I will be moved from the upto 8Mb package to the upto 20Mb package, for free !!
It remains to be seen what actual speeds I will get tho as it dependant on several factors. When I first got broadband I doubled my speed by sorting out dodgy wiring in the house and moving my router to the main BT socket ( rather than an extension ).
Dodgy cables or connections means noise on the line, which in turn means transmission errors and lower speeds.

With ADSL all broadband providers are very optimistic with their up to speeds. With BT Infinity the company is very pessimistic with their predictions and you usually get a much faster speed. In my case I was quoted up to 27Mbps and actually got 37Mbps. This is confirmed by many dedicated threads on Infinity .

As already mentioned here page loading is no faster but downloads are out of this world and more importantly it’s the ability for the whole family to do their own thing online at the same time without affecting anyone else that is so good, as there is always plenty of spare bandwidth even if I am streaming a HD movie.
plus £13.50 line rental (which I was paying anyway BUT first 3mths are free.
With Line Rental Saver you pay your home telephone line rental for the whole year in one card payment of £120 which works out at £10 a month
