OS Daily Monday 31st October
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 31st October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
:eek::eek: DS1 got up at 4.30 this morning :eek::eek: I think I did quite well until now to power up!! I'll pay for this later I know. OH is not going to work today as he's sick, so that will mean no food shopping. We've plenty in the freezer, I just need to dig for it! I'm sniffling, but can't give in as there seems to be so much to do (no change there).
Dinner tonight will be pork chops with mash and I'll see what veg I have in. Cleared back garden yesterday and took down kids trampoline. Finished all the ironing (until the next load is dry!).
Today will be cleaning what I didn't get to yesterday and hopefully sanding down the top of my dresser ready to paint. Need to sleep at some point though!! Hugs to those in need, - hi fives to parents as its back to school!!!

Morning all...
Well OH has gone off to work. DD2 still asleep and DD1 is away.
Mondays are busy.. I have to email OH's hours into payroll, DD2 to school, I have bread to make, fire to lay, and the washing to sort.
This is all while working from home and at some point I am going to have to start on the closing arguments for the contact case in 10 days.....
I have CAFCAS to chase today and also the court. I represent myself so there is a lot of work to do. Must remember to get a colour for my hair aswell.. have to look my best for the ex lol :rotfl:
Weather not too bad here... just started to rain but there is time yet for it to sort itself out.
Had a lovely walk up the fields last night with DD2, Oh and the dog. The dog needed a drink so OH switched the irrigator hydrant on and DD2 and the dog splashed so much that DD2 was covered from head to toe in mud and I had to even wash her wellies :rotfl:
Hugs to those who need it :T

Morning everyone,
Back to work today. Got a long and busy day and then a talk on fire safety to go to, could do without that!
WM is on but I don't think that it will dry due to drizzle!
Tea tonight is something from the left over pork from yesterday.
Hugs to all that need them.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning all... First time I've ever stepped into one of these threads, but dinner tonight is roast chicken. And I've never cooked a roast chicken before in my life. Any tips so we end up with a nice juicy bird and not a dry, stringy mess would be very much appreciated.
Laundry day today and also planning to bake a fresh cream chocolate swiss roll, nom nom nom.0 -

Morning... you could always put some foil over the chicken until the last 20 mins... then take the foil off so you get crispy skin yum yum yum

Thanks FarmersWife - that makes sense.
In recent months I've mastered the art of cooking beef to a nice juicy medium (bless my mum but I had to learn not to cook it for twice as long as it needs). White meat scares me though so when browning chicken for curries, grilling breasts etc, I tend to overcook it for fear of it being underdone and poisoning us! So it ends up a bit chewier than necessary.0 -
pinkteapot cook it upside down to keep the breast tender and use tinfoil for the end like farmers wife suggested, then leave the tinfoil on for 20 mins once you take it out.
Morning everyone. Also feeling groggy but I must wake up for work today, we're having a meeting about the whole gossiping crazyness going on amongst some people. Lots of uni work to do tonight, and tidying. I have no idea what's for dinner, or even lunch as I haven't actually made it yet :eek:Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
MOrning everyone, welcome pinkteapot, I second farmersWifes tip - smear your chicken lightly with butter, then wrap in tinfoil baste it at last 20 mins and take foil off to let the skin colour well. oh and remember and keep stock and carcass and boil up for stock for tomorrows soup!
Well dgs hasnt got the hang of this extra hour, I never knew Thomas the Tank was on before six in the morning! MIld here today so I have out the heating off, but it is quite damp and driech, so will keep the washing for another day. Tea will be smoked haddock in a cheese sauce, baby potatoes, broccolli and carrots. Plenty fruit and veg in at the moment as we went to Lidl yesterday - their proces cannot be beaten, it a shame we dont have one nearer than 15 miles away.
have a good day - albeit its going to be a long one!Every days a School day!0 -
Morning all
Dark & drizzly here this morning, hubby's been dropped off at the station with his packup, fish fed, DW on & breakfast eaten.
Back to work for me today, what joy. Tea tonight is Ham, Egg & Chips, with no ham for me, I am determined to make one small chicken, one small piece of ham & 6 sausages last the whole week for lunches & dinners.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Everyone
I had a nice weekend. Saturday i made Lasagna from scratch for 18 people and froze them to be cooked on Sunday (My OH Confirmation) and I did 8 HM garlic baguettes and froze those too.... Just 4 cakes to make this week and everything will be preped.
I have the bread on already this morning, but I am planning on a VERY lazy day today because I spent the best part of a week and a half with no energy and feeling really out of it (think my low blood pressure is playing me up again) so I had a good few days and if I rest today I might get a few more
I am at 30 weeks today, and I gained another 0.5lbs (which is a total gain on 1lb!) I am so pleased it's daft!!!! 20lbs to go and i'll be at my pre-pregnancy weight (hahahaha!) like that's going to happen!
Right I am off to update my avitar with my 30 week belly picture
Have a great day all xWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240
