if the residents think that strongly about it why did they not attend when it was an active chapel or got together to buy the chapel themselves so they could turn it into a meeting room for get togethers that they could not be bothered to use when it was a chapel. if the diocese dont want it anymore and the locasl could not be bothered to get together to buy it then what else did they want to happen too it. as before it would have ended up a drug den and you would have police raiding it nightly and they would not do this quitely

In my town we have one church that has been turned into a vodka bar. They even have a disco cross thing (like a disco ball).

And we also have another church that has been turned into a restaurant.

I think the graveyards (if they had any) were built on as both churches are surrounded by buildings.

if you look at a lot of wetherspoon establishments you will find they are in old churches
  • If this "The cemetery is still in use with the parish council still selling plots to families." is factual then the OP and others have every right to be upset. Had the chapel been freestanding then it would not be a problem but with an active cemetary then its not on.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • It would be great if people got the facts straight. Can someone tell me why this is even being discussed by people who know nothing about the situation?
