Full payment from my credit card company. A good outcome for me regards this mess. :T :j Good luck to everyone else.0

Being the OP of this thread, I thought I would share my good news with everyone!
The company who we had arranged our finance through to pay the balance of the suite with John Peters have telephoned us today to advise that they will be refunding the £500.00 deposit in full!! :j:T Although we had initially gone along the chargeback route with our debit card, we still hadn't had any firm response from our bank and if it hadn't been for all the help and information on here, we wouldn't have even realised that we could try & reclaim via the finance agreement, so thank you to everyone who gave their advice. You've all been great!:)
One lesson I have learnt from all of this is to ALWAYS pay any substantial deposits via CREDIT CARD in future and I shall take great delight in e-mailing Oak Contract Solutions to advise that we no longer want the suite from them as I shall be certainly going elsewhere and probably make a saving on the price they were charging......!!0 -

Great news for everyone then, I'm pleased to say!!:j:j I've already ordered the same suite from a different supplier online and saved a bit, too. OCS weren't very happy! I received a very curt reply from them when I told them I wouldn't be requiring the suite..........................but I'm more than happy with the outcome!!:T:T
Merry Christmas to you all :j0 -

Just been reading this thread with a lot of interest. We purchased a Suite from JP at Doncaster around 15 months ago. however its started to sagg on the long 2 seater. Contacted the Manufactuerer - Natuzzi of all people who are not exactly the most proactive. A gentleman came out to inset more foam and fit the let which was missing from the central frame!!!
Contacted Natuzzi about it regarding some type of goodwill jesture. Deaf ears - dont want to know. Told me to contact the Liquidators of John Peters.
Not if these guys are now liquidated and the subsequent company also went bump am i in my right to cancel my Standing order for the suite....
Secondly id also like advice on a proactive solution for some compensation
Thoughts please and any solid advice
Many thanks0 -

If it is to a finance company, then you must continue to pay until your debt is cleared. The finance company paid all the money to JP fifteen months ago, and now, I am sure, would like you to pay that money back to them, just as you have agreed to do.
About compensation...
It appears that the only people left are the manufacturers, the finance company and the administrators of the retailers.
The manufacturers owe you nothing other than possibly a manufacturer's warranty/guarantee. Is there such a thing? Is it still in effect 15 months after purchase?
By all means contact the adminstrators, but before you do so two points...
1) Be clear exactly what you are claiming for and translate that into a monetary value.
2) Remember that you may perhaps get a few pennies in the pound of your claim at some time in the distant future.
You could chase the finance company for compensation.
Under Consumer Credit legislation, they may be jointly responsible for the contract.
Have a read of MSE's Section 75 Refunds article for further details.
Having said all that, what do you want compensating for?
You told us the manufacturer has fixed your suite.
Is it still broken?0 -
Hi Wealdroam,
Thanks for the heads up.
The payment is through Barclays Finance which i believe was the company JP used at the time...
But my question is:
If JP have gone bust
The company who took on JP have also liquidated
Who am i paying if theres no company to pay?
wheres my money going in theory?
The warranty is 10years long.
However they seem to have washed their hands of the situation and bang on about contacting the liquidators...
Now whats the chance of getting that sorted when JP owe millions in outstanding debt?
If you wish to PM me by all means with pleasure0 -

You must continue to pay Barclays Finance because they have already paid the retailer in full for your furniture.
Why do you think Barclays will be happy for you to stop paying before you have paid them all the money that you have borrowed from them?
Whether or not the retailer still exists is of no relevance.
Re: the warranty...
You still haven't answered the question I posed yesterday......what do you want compensating for?
You told us the manufacturer has fixed your suite.
