    Published 17.11.2011 07:01 | Last Updated 17.11.2011 07:01

Unsecured creditors of fallen furniture chain John Peters - collectively owed £14.7m - are expected to share a pot worth £10,272 according to the company's liquidator O'Hara & Co.

Business Dream Ltd, the company trading under the John Peters Furnishing fascia, ceased trading and went into liquidation at the end of October. Its assets were later sold to its former owner with a spokesman for O'Hara saying it would recommence trading on a smaller scale.

According to the liquidator, John Peter's assets had a book value of about £700,000, most of which was stock subject to retention of title claims. It said the assets were expected to realise £71,000 with around half of that to be paid to staff for unpaid wages and holiday pay. A further £28,000 would be available for floating charge holders with unsecured creditors left to share just over £10,000.

Unsecured claims are collectively worth £14.7m.

John Peters owed £1.4m in unpaid rent while further landlord claims total over £10.7m. Trade and expense creditors - who include a host of UK and overseas furniture producers and importers - are owed £915,691 while the taxman's claim is worth over £600,000, most of which is for unpaid VAT.

Customer deposits are listed at £68,694.

Business rates owing total £462,360 while director and employee claims are worth around £500,000 combined.

Thanks for that. It's really appreciated. I did manage to find out about this after I posted my message to you, by Googling the full description of the sofa.

I'll keep trying for our deposit back, then hopefully, I can order our suite from here. Good luck in getting your wages......:)
  • Some fantastic news. Santander have refunded all of our money. So happy, so elated. Thought it would drag on and on and wouldn't get anything back, but we have !
Paid over 4 thousand pound to John Peters in July on our Visa debit card and they supplied some of the order, but over 2 thousand pound it never materialised. Sent dispute claim into our bank on Friday and there in our bank account today is all the money refunded !!

good you got your money that quick, but most likely they have dealt with other JP customers and refunded them, so all the checks into JP were already done, so it was just a case of refunding you.

Hi I am in the same position as everyone on here, having paid a a deposit for Tavira sofa, could you help me out with the manufacturers name so i can try and source it elsewhere. Its poo about your wages :(
  • More fantastic news, MBNA have refunded our full deposit of £2500, I also thought that it would drag on for ages, but when I spoke to the bank it seemed that they had accepted the situation as inevitable, now we have to begin the search all over again, however now wiser as a result of this experience, I hope that eventually everyone in a similar situation gets satisfaction.
  • Have completed my claim form with Yorkshire Bank who stated they needed an email from OCS stating that I would not be receiving my order, I had this from my initial correspondence with OCS so hopefully I will be receiving my money back. Will keep all informed. What a terrible mess this has been for everyone.
