Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 30th October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

This extra hour is a godsend isn't it. Just off to get a cup of tea and go back to bed. I'll be back later to see what time you were all up! Hope I have done this properly. If not you'll probably never see it.

    Happy to help!!
What IS it that my boys don't understand about mornings? Up at 5.30 (new time!) again and have been playing wii since then. Does mean that I can just sit and snooze on the sofa though - so not all bad. OH gone back to bed - his chest infection isn't clearing very well - wonder if he'll be in work tomorrow - doesn't look good. Its the lack of sleep due to coughing that is the problem.

Pork chops for tea (had pasta last night) and will do veg from freezer, made rice pudding yesterday so the boys can finish that off. Free listing day on ebay so will put a few things on there I think. Hope you all have a nice day, x
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Hi everyone - still struggling healthwise so I'm not spending much time at the computer. Will catch up with you as soon as this rotten bug has gone.

Hope you all have a good Sunday, and have been able to make the most of that extra hour in bed!

  • Morning Monnagran & Squeaky & everyone else
I'm up & around, I've taken hubby a cuppa in bed, we had a lovely day yesterday with DGD2, she was very serious when she first arrived, but soon got used to us & then was all smiles, very happy & content, but you should have seen her face when her Mum, Dad & sibs arrivered to collect her she was so excited, wriggling & laughing. She was no trouble all day ate & slept to her usual routine. She was so good I managed to cook a chicken & a piece of ham, make a huge batch of bread pudding & 11 jars of apple & chilli jelly. Then in the evening I knitted some more mittens, stripey ones this time.
Plans for today include turning the ham & chicken, that cost £7.32 for both, into a weeks worth of meals for the 2 of us & a weeks worth of sarnies for hubby, I shall make stoup from the chicken carcase for my lunches.
I have a little washing ready to hang on the line & an untidy corner of my living room to sort out once the GP has finished, hubby will be pottering in the garden, tidying it up & planting some overwinter veg, he's also planning the gazebo he wants to build for next year & looking at greenhouse heaters.
Molly, I hope Poppy is ok.
    NPM, Hugs
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning monnagran and everyone else

Well, our littlies were up even earlier than usual - don't normally surface until nearly 8 on Sunday, but were raring to go before 6! :( Upside is I might get them to bed tonight earlier, too! :D

Going to make sloe gin today, tackle Mount Ironmore, and get the sewing machine out to do some of my Christmas projects. Damp and drizzly here, but mild, so no CH on today.

Going for second breakfast now, hobbit-style, have a good Sunday morning - hugs and kisses if you need 'em. :)

Morning folks, damp and miserable here today but it is quite mild so the heating has been switched off. Sorry to hear there are so many feeling under the weather at the moment.- Hope you all get better soon! DGS was up at 6.30 new time, but thats not too bad considering he was in his bed at 7 last night. OH is working today so not sure what we will do - its just me and DGS so it will be a park somewhere and a long walk with the wellies on I think.
I will have to make a pot of soup today - think it will be potato and leek - OH was given a sack of potatoes and I have lots of dried leeks to use up. I have a chicken to roast for tea, will use some of the meat for some sandwiches tomorrow, once I have stripped it I will boil up the carcass for stock to be put in the freezer. Wont get much crochet or knitting done either.

Hope you all have a good Sunday

    Good Morning x

Hester, Thankyou for asking about Poppy. I was up in the night with her as her Metacam seems to wear off and she can only have one dose. Also the wretched fireworks started and she is frightened of them:mad::mad::mad:

Any how onwards and upwards and although Im tired I want to make my Pumpkin Pie and some cakes. DD is carving said pumpkins as we speak so should be able to get on soon.

I also need to get some washing on so that is my next job.

Hugs for a good day and I hope you all enjoy the extra hour. Spare a thought for night workers who have to work an extra hour and if you work for the NHS do it for free :eek::eek:
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Definately agree with Molly re NHS workers - DD started at 8 last night in a busy A and E ward, and a 12 hour shift is bad enough but with it being a Saturday night and an extra hour she will be even more shattered!

    Morning all,
DGD had me up at 5am, she doesn't know about clocks going back, to her it was 6am. Oh well at least I've fed her and DH boiled egg & soldiers followed by strawb yogurt.
Didn't post y/day because DD2 phoned at 9.30 to ask if we could have DGD, picked her up and went shoping for veg. DH took her for a walk to the local rural museum to see the animals she ran around for an hour making her tired so she had a 2.5hr nap. That gave me time to take the breasts off 2 ys chickens and freeze, cooked the rest of the chickens for our roast dinner today and will make enough for DD, Sil & DGD. Boiled carcass for chicken soup. HESTER, great minds eh ? Also batch cooked 3 kg of mince, portioned it up to make bol, shep pie and lasagne. Got some reduced onions so choped and frozen. Also got some ys milk so I made a batch of cheese sauce also frozen.
So I have the bases of several meals to hand. Just got the lawn mowed before DGD woke. Hope it's the last time it has to be cut.
DH has spent ages cleaning out all the gutters, there was so much moss in them the rain was overflowing out.
Got some ironing to do for DD, I'll take it back this after when I drop DGD home, It really is hard work keeping 2 households up and running.
Off to catch up on posts, Hugs where needed.
