Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to give it a go. I also need to find somewhere I can buy a huge bottle of vinegar. I usually buy the smaller Tesco Value vinegar (not the distilled kind) but as I don't go there very often it gets used up and our local shop sells it for 43p instead of the Tesco 17p!0

Hi all,
Am very interested in this idea, can anyone tell me whether you need a dedicated pan and grater for this? Or is giving them a thorough scald and wash after making gloop ok?
I just had this vision of soap flavoured food *ewww*
Many thanks0 -
I use a cup of "granny soap flakes" from tesco which is already fine enough. the pan i just wash out with hot water and no-one's complained yet

i'm tempted to try gloop but really have no storage space, guess i could make a smaller quantity or something?! i'm currently working my way through some ariel colour tablets, i only ever use 1 at the most per wash, but i am quite itchy (usually use persil, could be the ariel), and would like to try something different. tried just soda crystals but things still smelt a bit sweaty....Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

I have never used borax, it is not in the recipe.
GLoop is the best thing for woolen knitwear IMHO;) Glad to see this thread again. Something to do with all the excess soap from xmas...
As for storage I use two of those plastic boxes you get from poundland with little buns in, buns removed first;) Takes up no more room than a large box of powder, and the bonus is you do not have to carry it home from the shops!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

does it really get clothes clean? i ask because i tried just using soda crystals recently as i had a bad reaction to washing powder and read that actually using nothing was ok, but things still smelt a bit sweaty
i think i'll try and make a small bit after using my tablets upMum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
I am using up some gloop I made some time ago to save buying washing powder . I made it with soap, washing soda and then added some eucalyptus oil, I find it makes the clothes smell really fresh. Either that or use the lemon scented or aqua soap, both of which freshen the smell up.
I have also made and used the hm washing powder but there is something therapeutic mixing up the gloop in a saucepan and seeing it thicken.:)Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
