    [post=463363]lemon curd[/post] by Glad - thank you Glad :)

I make this quite often - and yesterday made a switch and used an orange instead of a lemon. Today I had to make some MORE!!! :)

Thank you for the above. I have a few oranges left that are getting past their best. Being newly pregnant I'm just not fancying citrus and others in the house suffer from 'orange juice sliding down the arm irritates me so don't bother' I could quit easily stomach an orange curd though :)

I'm not eating a lot at the moment to I'm cooking smaller portions. Everything has been eaten at meals times the past few days and breakfast portions have been lowered for the little ones so to avoid throwing uneaten out.

Off now to make toffee apples for the children as some dodgy looking apples need eating....... and I read with interest the tip about dunking waxy fruit in boiling water for a bit as it might help the toffee stick to the waxy apples a bit better.;)

I never finish a litre of soya milk before it goes off. I usually throw away half. I can buy 500 ml for the same price as a litre, but the smaller boxes of soya are not easy to find. I tried freezing it but it separated out. I bought milkshake syrup to try to use up the spare soya milk, but it did not taste nice.

I've a few bread odds and ends to use up. Some are going for the birds (I don't count that as waste) and I I'm wanting to make croutons with the other bits. I don't know how to do i so off to investigate now.

Also, as a matter of urgency - DH bought cut herbs for the rabbit stew (I detest cut herbs as I know I won't use them all and prefer growing to give me more of a chance!) so apart from roasting potatoes and veg what else could I use rosemary and thyme - and will they freeze?

They will freeze marvellously, I believe - just use them from frozen next time you need them :)

Hello all! Great to read about the successes and tips here - well done to us all - just being more aware of throwing things away makes you use things up.

I haven't thrown anything away this week so far - leftovers have been taken to work for lunch today and its a freezer tea tonight of fish and chips so nothing to waste there either. The fruit mountain is slowly disappearing too so hopefully there'll be nothing left by the end of the week.
I do have some milk that I won't use and a few raspberries so thought about making a chocloate Angel Delight with some raspberries in it to use up both of these before they go off - good idea!

Tea tonight is frozen pizza - asda own brand thin ones are all reduced to 50p each don't normally buy but got a few for emergency teas, just as well as can barely move today!! - and last nights left over boiled tatties fried up with chilli and garlic.

Re the evap custard fiasco, could you have served it up as fudge? ;)

Well laast night I started up a stock peelings bag and it's got onion skins and ends and some sprout leaves/ends in so far :) Already have a couple cooked chicken carcasses in freezer so will endeavour to make some stock at the weekend and then that'll clear a little space in the freezer :)

Had to throw away a haggis pie that somehow made it;s way into the back of the cupboard a week ago and not the fridge - I did think I had imagined buying that!!

Thank you for the frugal girl link, hadn't come across it before so that's tomorrow's readin sorted out while I'm laid up :)
Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

I was having a great day until I spilled 10 grams of sugar all over the kitchen floor. Not that this is truly bad but I went to have one of the last two pears from my smart price pack only to find that fruit flies had got there first and completely gutted them. Needless to say - I was gutted too :(

Anyway - that's a whole 50p onto my total already. In ONE day! Boo hoo.

Grand total for Nov currently at 56p AND, unfortunately, still counting...

  • Enjoying reading what everyone's up to / how to use things up - it's still baby steps for me too I'm afraid ......

Anyway, pleased to report I've not thrown anything away yesterday or today:D - I did have some very past it rolls (which would normally have been put out) but I've chopped these and frozen and they'll do for the birds in the depths of winter/when there's snow around (only really give them food then as don't really like encouraging them into the garden because of the cats).

Squeaky thanks for the links for Soya milk - I'm "trailling" this just now as I'm lactose intolerant and would struggle if I couldn't get to the shops in the winter so hoping the soya may be a reasonable alternative to my usual Lactofree.
