Just lately when I buy Broccolli there seems to be more stalk than head .Anyone have any ideas what I can do with the chunky stalk to use it up as I don't like to see anything binned it its at all edible.I have been trimming it and bunging it in the freezer to keep and I have about four thick chunky stalks in there at the moment0

I really like slicing them up and using them in stir-frys. It's kind of like a mix between broccoli and bamboo shoots! I also use them in anything that's just mixed vegetables, like soups, sauces, just bear in mind that they take a little longer to cook than the flower part.0

Do people normally throw away brocolli stalks then?? I never have done, it's the best part of the thing! Gorgeous strifried, grated raw into salad/coleslaws and also in soups, makes them really velvety smooth.Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

What can I do with half a savoy cabbage that isnt going to last much longer? The hens got the other half but they arent keen on it lol so I suppose we'll have to eat it!0

We have that "special" long stem broccoli here, peel the outside and then just follow the branches down splitting the trunk into long stems. Never waste any.0

Well I thought I was doing ok - until I ventured into DD1 & 2 rooms and found two bowls of cold noodles from gawd knows when in the week and a bit left of what looks like spag bol but not sure. This is what happens when you leave teens on their own to sort out own teas and they slide off into their room with food.At least I found it before it went green.
Guess thats about 40p put in bin - dog turned its nose up at it and i don't really blame him either:oCrazy Clothes Challenge 2012 £57.20/£100,CCC 2013 £68.67/£100 ,CCC 2014 £94.32/£100

Just has to throw away a little orange - I didn't buy it - my parents left them when they visited so I keep forgetting they are there! Don't know how much but I am guessing about 20p - will do something with the remaining three and the 4 apples they left tonight before it is too late!0

I've just had to throw out three limes, and there are several more that I've popped in the freezer so that I can get the juice later. I think that counts as wasting half of what I bought, so 50p. Running total now £2.72.
I'm too using the 'if I bought this intending that humans would eat it, and we aren't going to, it's waste'.Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.0 -
I threw away two jacket spuds today that were delivered on the 8th October ! I expect I could have cut away the bad bits but ....
In better news, I used up the feta yesterday even though it was opened on saturday and always seems to go off quickly ? I kept it in one of those lock and lock boxes - may be that helped ? I also used a fresh soup yesterday that was use by 30th Oct and which i had been tempted to bin and I also used up the quark last saturday that had a use by date of 20th October. pre this thread I would have been tempted just to bin it....
I'm also frying up some spring onions that I chopped the other day and took to work but didn't eat so no waste there.
What is everyone having for tea tonight ? I always struggle on a Friday night as I can never be bothered to cook....0
