got chicken for tea but wont be using the skin so will be throwing that away , does that count??

Do you make stock from the bones? I add the skin etc to this for a bit of extra flavour (I usually add seasoning so it does add a wee bit extra)

If making stock from it and then throwing away, I wouldn't count as waste.

  • Right I have to say I have given up on the adjusting the soup I made - yes I feel that this time I have to admit defeat so 2 lots of soup down the sink am afraid.

costing probably about £1.50 i guess but at least I gave it a try.:o

Oh and have checked the fruit bowl and there is a brown soggy pear so that's off in the bin too - cost 25p I suppose.

Oh and I have a slight problem. I forgot to take the 10 oranges I cut up to give to the footy team my DD3 plays for this morning. They are in quarters and am not so sure what to do with them? :o

    Any ideas????

Rescuing soup - I find that adding cream to not-very-nice-soups works well. Add enough so it's luxuriously creamy - doesn't actually mean using loads. The taste may be bland but the mouth feel will make it acceptable.

Ends of celery, wilting carrots, onions, leeks etc can be shredded in a food processor and portioned and frozen to use as starter veg for casseroles, etc - look for "hash" threads. Portion = about 2 heaped tablespoons. Makes starting off stews/soups quick and easy and adds depth of flavour.

Ends of veg can be frozen just as they are until you have enough for a single variety soup - eg several ends of celery. Texture won't matter if soup is blended and single variety soups avoid the risk of over-adventurous mixtures.

Another tip - assuming you menu plan before shopping - check freezer/fridge/cupboards then menu plan then shop. And use stuff that is fading fast first. It's so easy to think "I'll use that another day" then forget about it. It's also easy to think "I don't fancy that today" but try adding "but I've spent £1-23 on it so I will do"

Long time frozen HM fish pie and bulk-bought-chopped-and-frozen-Aldi-on-offer-leeks tonight. Leeks were very lightly trimmed before freezing - trimmings into compost bin. Pie has unpeeled mash - like the name "rustic mash":)

  • Ohhhhh, it's all going downhill:mad:

To add to my 22p potatoes:

    1/2 tin rice pudding = £25p
1/2 jar pasta sauce (it was horrible & has been hiding in the back of the fridge for a fortnight!) = 50p
    2 parsnips = 40p

So ... now up to £1.37 and it's only the 5th:(

Grrrr just tried to add this to my challenges on my sig .... too long!

Not sure what to remove.... Sigh .....

You had lots of repeated codes in your sig for the color changes, and font sizes, and font types. I've tidied the codes up without making any marked changes to your content so you should have a bit more space. Copy & Paste this...

Finally DF :) learning to budget so it stays that way!

Woo hoo a win... turns out my estimate on the pears was wrong - I checked prices and the waste should have been only twenty five pence not fifty.

    Yay! :)

But then I decided to have porridge this morning to use up my very old porridge oats and it was stale and really nasty. <sob>. Price checked and the waste is twenty five pence.

So I'm right back to where I was at 56p - but with more actual waste.

Ahhhhh, I just couldn't work out what was wrong as it kept saying I had more than 6 lines when I could only see 5!

    Thanks for sorting for me:A

I've now added this one in too so I can't lose track!:D

There are actually two limits to the size of signatures:-

alpha1.gif the number of lines allowed.

alpha2.gif the number of characters (letters, spaces, punctuation) AND the codes for color, size, font etc. When you edit color (etc) when in wysiwyg mode the editing software does not override and remove your first choice but adds in the extra code. So in some cases you had three different color choices wrapped around just a couple or three words.

Using the "Go advanced" button and then toggling between wysiwyg and "code" views helps you to keep track... and there's a button just below the editing window which will let you preview your post. So you can edit your sig (or post), preview it to see what it looks like... edit more if needed, preview again...

edit preview edit preview edit preview edit preview edit preview edit preview edit preview edit preview edit preview.... :)

    HTH :)

I got [STRIKE]fed up trying to get the colours/fonts to match using the selectors[/STRIKE] lazy so just started copying & pasting which is probably why there were so many changes

I never knew the code view was there .... (and very embarrassed to say that a long time ago, I used to write basic code on a website:o) but now I do, they'll be no stopping me!
