Well my soup turned out very well and I have enough for about a week. Some will go into the freezer and some into the fridge.I too am 'running down' my freezer before Christmas as I get lots of 'left over bits ' from my DDs which they would usually chuck away.I turn them into something else and pop in the freezer for mid January.I like to have my freezer as empty as I can in the run up to Christmas as there is usually quite a lot of 'whoopsied' stuff to freeze from the supermarket mid afternoon on Christmas Eve and on Boxing day.also New Years Eve is a good day for reduced bits.
January can be a loooong month when the bills come in.I have a jar of mincemeat that I shall use this year that I got in January for 20p Its Robertsons as well, so a good make with a very long date on it.Supermarkets like to get shot of 'christmassy stuff' asap after the event for stock rotation so I never mind rotating their stock into my cupboards at all.:)
I spent yesterday afternoon peeling windfalls and stewed them in honey with a squirt of lemon juice and I now have two of those chinese type plastic boxes in the freezer full of stewed apple.I know my DD has another big bag for me that she picked up from her MIL last night so tomorrow I will be peeling more apples .They will all be used in crumbles or pies during the winter I also have some nice blackberries in the freezer that my grandsons picked for me.They will get mixed up with either apples for pies or sometimes I mix a handful into a pot of natural yoghurt As I said nowt get chucked out in my house if at all possible. Today I am making a quiche with some left over sliced mushrooms a couple of slices of steaky bacon (done to a crisp)some chedder cheese and a couple of eggs.I also have about a quarter of a pot of single cream to use up so that will go in as well. This will make me a 7" quiche which I will have over the next few days with salad for lunch. My quiche will cost pennies instead of a couple of quid from the supermarket and all my odds and ends in the fridge gets used up, simples:)

Ohhhhh my .... I've done my freezer inventories - and am horrified by the amount of food that's in them! I'm sure they could feed a family for a month, let alone just me!:o
Everything's all muddled (have raw stuff in the inside one and cooked meals in the outside one) but they're so full I can't really sort them out until I use some of the stuff.
Lists have been typed & will be printed & put on the fridge door - I will not be buying any more meat/fish until I've got through the 4 whole chickens, 8 chicken breasts, several bits of fish and 6 packs of mince that are lurking in there already.

Thanks for the link, Squeaky. Sadly, I'd put the cream in the freezer and a lot of the posts mention single cream doesn't freeze well and separates ... never mind, that'll be another addition to my total.
Shall be rinsing out the milk bottle a bit later and adding it to the white sauce I'll be making for tonight's lasagne.Rustic chips sound lovely! Don't worry, Rising from the ashes, I have a lot of food in my freezer and shall be rotating it before Christmas.

They don't last long enough in our house to get near the freezer!:rotfl:
I know what you really mean though - I've never frozen the peelings before. Not sure if you would have to blanche them first before freezing?
Am sure someone will come along soon with a bit more frezer knowledge than me.
I just (naughtily) deep fry the clean peelings quickly, drain, then grind a bit of what I have handy over the top and usually they are gone within seconds around here. A bit freshly ground salt and pepper or bit of hot chilli grind is my favourite - i suppose you could serve with soured cream as a dip.
For a more healthy version, pop on a tray, squirt of olive oil or lite fry and into a med hot oven should give same result - but only if the oven is alreasy on
Just had my own disaster in kitchen - brought home a sarnie bag of left over greens from lunch at my Dads.Idea was to make bubble & squeak and freezeUsed two jacket spuds to make mash - but I made it cold (doh) and then added greens and seasonings bit of onion but it was still really lumpy so wizzed it usp and now its gone to gloop!
I tried it hot and it was disgusting - couldn't even pass it as potato puree:onot even a baby would have eaten it - so probably 30p of spud and 5p of onion in bin.
Not been my weekend for saving leftovers oh well never mind:(Crazy Clothes Challenge 2012 £57.20/£100,CCC 2013 £68.67/£100 ,CCC 2014 £94.32/£100
