November 2011 - Grocery Challenge

I am so happy to find that the November Grocery Challenge Thread is up and running:j
I didn't set a budget in October - the only aim was to spend as little as possible.....
I totaled up my spends at lunchtime and I am sure the figure was over £550 ??? I don't recall any spends including cash back. Seriously HOW have I spent that much on food ? There is only me, the OH and the cat ??!! This spend total doesn't include meals out. I only had one home delivery - a big chunk went on that - over £180 but the rest ????? daily spends sometimes, most in excess of £10, sometimes more....
I feel frustrated that I am still spending a fortune on food. I have wasted food this month. Did I read above that there is a don't throw food away challenge ? I need to do that....
PS please share your meal planning tips on the meal plan thread that I set up. I have had some fab input0 -
could you put me down for £300 again this month please
havent quite finished in oct yet but only a few days to go and still a little left in the budget :j
thanks again to everyone who keep this thread going
goodluck for novemberthis year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk0 -
Thinking on...
The don't throw food away challenge would work well hand in hand with the grocery challenge.
After all...
If you reduce your spending AND reduce your waste - you should be quids in !
You are spot on. Our town has just started food recycling and I am determined that I wont be joining in, not that I do not agree with recycling I just dont agree with wasting food.0 -
hi all,
was a little over last month but still spent loads less than previous months so...
£300 again please - that includes all household items, cleaning stuff, toiletries etc.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I am going to be ruthless this month, the food mountain has got to shrink. I am planning to eat from the freezer and food cupboard this month and just keep a few pounds to buy milk, bread and fresh veg. I have £100 worth of M and S vouchers, (from surveys and gifts) and if I can get my freezer a bit emptier I plan to use the vouchers and get some luxuries for Christmas. So its £80
My problem is I start of with the best intentions, make loads of plans and then something always gets in the way.0 -
Please put me down for £100 for the four weeks starting Friday 4/11 thanks and thanks for all the brilliant recipes and encouragement given along the way.£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund0

As a postscript to my last post, I'm going to be trying $ainbugs instead of my usual blue and white supplier for my next home delivery but I will only be having the shop once I have planned for the whole month rather than shop shop shop and then [STRIKE]plan[/STRIKE] waste lots of stuff / spend lots more dosh.
I have a ten pound off first shop so will use that towards it.
I'm thinking of working out my meals week by week and then planning the shops accordingly. Thats the plan anyway...0 -

This is my first month of doing this, I started reading the October thread half way through October, so started adding up from then, spent about £50, so Im hoping to spend £100 for November, starting from tomorrow which is payday :j
There is only myself and my kitty to feed, so it is a pretty generous budget, but it does depend on how many times I see my boyfriend, as it costs £40 in petrol to drive to his house and back (a serious dent in anyones budget!!)
Good luck everyone!0
