    quiche jacket spuds coleslaw
ready roasted chicken, new pots (sometimes tinned) and salad or peas
chicken curry with jar sauce (but makes van stink if you can't cook outside)
    shepherds pie
    bacon and egg
lots of barbecues in the summer

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    hi
rather than deal with the squashing everything in the car
would it be worth you considering ordering online then having your shopping delivered to your caravan - say an hour or so after you get there
or even just take tea and have it delivered in the morning

most parks seem to be happy with this (give them a quick phone and check) and it saves tons of space in your car...especially useful if you can get a free delivery voucher..I've done this for allsorts of uk holidays for years and its a godsend when the weathers iffy and you need to take more stuff ( I've even had it delivered to a tent !):T

Bake a cake / biscuits and take them with you for snacks. I would load up a cool box if you have space for it. Just with bits you normally use!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Used to use this recipe whenever we went caravaning:
    THREE TIN BEEF STEW

Cheap, quick and easy, and also delicious, warming and filling. Useful as an emergency meal, especially if you have no water supply, as it uses the water in the tins. Also useful for camping or caravanning. Not recommended for backpacking, though.

    Makes 4 x 250ml bowls

    INGREDIENTS

1 tin of stewed steak in gravy
1 tin of new potatoes in water
1 tin of sliced carrots, sliced mushrooms or garden peas in water

    METHOD

Open the tin of steak. Put the steak and gravy into a saucepan.

Open the tin of potatoes. Drain the water into the saucepan. Cut the potatoes into 2cm (1 inch) pieces. Add the potatoes to the saucepan.

Open the tin of carrots, mushrooms or peas. Add them and the water to the saucepan.

    Stir thoroughly.

Put the saucepan on a medium heat. Bring to the boil, then turn down the heat until it is just boiling (simmering). Put the lid on the saucepan and continue to cook for 5 minutes until the potatoes are cooked.

    ADDITIONS & ALTERATIONS

    Add a beef stock cube.

Add a teaspoon of dried parsley.

You can, of course, use more than two tins of vegetables.

    TIPS

If any of the potatoes are damaged, mash them up and add them to the saucepan. They will help to thicken the stew.

Follow it with tinned fuit and a tin of cream and you've got a complete meal for about £2.
    I Believe in saving money!!!:T

At first when we started using our caravan we would eat out for breakfast. Usually a full English breakfast which would tide us over for the rest of the day and i'd cook us a meal. I'd generally put on weight over the week.

However, as prices went up and finances went down i started to buy bags of tiny new potatoes as i certainly wasnt going to peel and mash spuds on my holiday. I'd use tinned vegetables but would still cook pork chops/lamb steaks/chicken breasts/steak etc on the hob. I find this is a happy medium for us and i no longer put on weight whilst we are away.

My breakfast usually consists of cereal at home so i eat cereal when i am in the caravan. Hubby doesnt get the full cooked breakfast but he does get sausage, bacon and egg sandwiches and i wash up and clean the van whilst he takes the dogs out.

I always take 2 frozen meals. Usually a chilli and a shepherds pie or something like that. I put them in the cool box with basic cold provisions for the first couple of days (milk, butter etc).We have the first on the first day, then the other goes in the fridge and is fine for day 2.

Don't forget to pack things like washing up liquid/sponges, salt & pepper, sauces etc as you really don't want to have to buy big bottles of stuff for just a short holiday.
