macaroni cheese is another easy evening meal that most adults and children like nice and easy to cook too
  • For snacks, I'd make a big batch load of biscuits before you go in a few different flavours. If you add oats and dried fruit, you're getting some good stuff in too. I'd also take a few packs of rice cakes, which are great with peanut butter and soft cheese.

Rice and beans/peas is a real camp stove tea, usually made in a big pot. It's basically rice, kidney beans, stock and herbs, but it's very filling and quite tasty. Pasta is another cheap and easy one; pasta, tinned tomatoes, herbs, cheese, veg if you can (mushrooms and spinach are easy to hide if you chop them up finely!).

For breakfast, I'd be going with toast. Boring, but a few cheap loaves will go a long way and people can choose to put on what they want. Pancakes would also be cheap, if someone is prepared to stand and cook them.

Toast is not that easy to do for a large group when you're camping - even if you remember to bring a toaster..... did not see any oven/grill listed in the available equipment. We used to have a special little griddly thing for toast which you can put on a gas ring, but it never worked very well.
But if anyone has a good method for making toast while camping (without a grill), I'd love to hear it, as it is my preferred breakfast!

we went camping a few weeks ago in a tent and I successfully fed 4 kids and 2 adults from a 2 burner cooker with grill.I got a variety pack of cereals for 2 breakfasts and also took a cool bag filled with frozen sausage, bacon, crumpets, cheese and also a large tub of frozen chilli to serve on the first night with rice.It was great having a preprepared meal on the first night and the sausage, bacon, cheese etc I kept in the cool bag and they remained fresh for the whole 4 days we were there and it was really hot too.We tended to have either fry ups or cereals for breakfast and had tinned meat, tinned veg and new potatoes for one evening meal, salmon salad another and a bbq another. It can be done and it doesnt have to be hi-tech

We often go camping every summer and we have tins of stewing steak, add a chopped onion and a tin of new potatoes with some tinned veg and we have a lovely meal.

To keep your foods cold without using a fridge we have a big bucket packed with ice bags. Your food stays cold and even when the ice melts it is great for keeping the kids drinks cold.
Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is yellow tonight,
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is mellow and bright,
There’s a coyote crying at the moon above,
Carry me back to the one I love,
And you old faithful pal of mine.

    Hi

We camp a couple of times a year and although there are things that you SHOULD do, there are things that the kids expect as part of their holiday, so at some point you can make up your own rules from the tips from this site. For e.g. ours are:

    - Multipack cereals are a must as a treat.
    - we always have a chilli on the first night and traditionally it is cooked and transported by the person closest to site.
    - Freeze milk, cheese, sausages and bacon and put into the coolbox.
    - have a BBQ the 2nd night when everything is defrosted
    - A couple of bags of marshmallows are a treat and pudding after BBQ - just take along forks.
    - tinned curry is good
    - think of couscous, pasta with instant sauce, and noodles
    - lots of fruit and chocolate

    Have fun

We are going away in Sept :j and i would be interested if anyone could give me a few ideas on recipies that i could cook in a small caravan kitchen. Its one of the Haven standard kitchens so no microwave or extra gadgets i would guess. We cant afford to eat out every night and we only have a smallish budget. There is me, OH, DD aged 2 and DS 11 months.
