  • We always camp and I bring the first nights from home meal as its a frozen homemade one (usually spag bolog- homemade sauce and bought fresh pasta) or a cooked chicken (put in a 3 tiered steamer with tin pots on the bottom (serve with lots of mint jelly), chicken next and tinned carrots/peas on the top

Boil in the bag rice is a good standbye (can add all sorts to this) and tins of all day breakfasts (the kinds with beans, sausages etc in) - also tins of chicken in white sauce, tinned haggis (with packet mashed pot!!) ravioli on toast for a snack........

  • Hi,I have just booked a Static caravan for a week in April in Devon.

Their will be four of us (I think) 3 Adults and one Teen.

I have just got to grips with my Grocery spending ,and money is always tight so the question is what do I bring that can make this a really cheap holiday.
We are getting there by train so have to consider weight.

We will eat out just not every meal and the food at Haven is probably expensive including the supermarket so I want to choose what is worth bringing and what I should just buy there.

I can probably get the others to bring stuff in their cases.

I intend to bring Toilet rolls ,Half a roll of kitchen towel,a small amount(empty shampoo bottle)of washing up liquid.

    Coffee ,Noodles ,pasta,pasta sauce smoked sausage,microwave rice,tinned curry,cheese,tinned/box mac n cheese.

DD said toast will do her for brekkie, and suits me as well(the others can sort themselfs out lol)

    Anyone else got any suggestions?

Why not raid the fast food stores for sachets of sauce, mayonnaise, vinegar, salt & pepper.

Take your own cornflakes with you or porridge to fill you up for longer.

Is it worth packing a few snacks like crisps?

Will you be venturing outside the holiday park? If so you could see what supermarkets are around there, which would be cheaper than using the site one.

Depending on which store you use for your normal shopping, see if there is one within reach and use it.

If poss try and do a small menu plan and take bits with you. If there is a local market use that for fruit and veg.

We always go on SC hols in caravans, this year to the South of France, traval thanks to Tesco deals on eurotunnel, cost of van for 10 days £139.50.

The most expensive things are fuel, road tolls and 2 nights in a motel each way.............but its a trip we need to do. I have worked out my menu and will cook ahead, or take stuff with us frozen, so the spending money we take can be used to buy local produce.

I know this will not suit you, but it works for us.

Hope you have a good trip and enjoy your holiday.

  • Which Haven park is it? I stayed at one in Devon, near Exmouth, and there was a Tesco just a 5 min drive away. So I took the essentials that I already had at home and bought fresh/frozen stuff from Tesco then, and took advantage of any BOGOF deals.

The onsite shop was rather expensive, but it did have a bakery that did snacks as well which wasn't too expensive.

  • I want to keep it simply and not really have to cook much ,but after looking at my list,I long for healthy cooked meals to be on it,(wish I could bring the contents of my freezer).

I will buy fresh produce when I get there.
Thing is There are three adults and we all live in seperate homes(me with DD) so all will have different tastes, and more importantly may not plan ahead like I do,and I don't want to be the one always cooking.

    My list so far:

    Toilet rolls
    Coffee
    Tea
    Sugar
    Microwave rice(2 for £2 Asda)
Tinned curry (3 for £2 Asda)
    Pasta sauce
    Pasta(quick cook)
    Noodles
    Packet soup
Tinned Hamburgers(I know but they taste nice:o )
    Cous cous
    Smoked sausage
    Sachets of condiments
    Bottle of Bourbon:o

I would bring crisps but I have to buy them by the pack on a daily basis or I just eat the multi pack:o

Anyone got any quick healthy throw together recipies I could easily make when I get there (obviously I will be buying fruit and veg)
