I'm getting pestered by calls at the moment. My number is already registered with TPS. Is there any way of checking where they originate from? Don't want to have to call them back!

    numbers are 008002585685 & 08450229977

Just stick the numbers into Google and you often find out all the info you need.

Cheers - just found that one myself!

Closest I got with the 00800 number was...

'If it's 0800 258 it's an Alphatalk UK freephone number, but I don't know who it belongs to'

    here

TPS definitely doesn't block all cold calls or all silent or fax tone calls. I still get them - at least with a cold caller you can tell them you are with TPS and I've found they do often apologise etc.
Silent Callguard isn't free, it's about £50 so you have to weigh that cost up against the irritation factor.
Wish there was a program you could run on your PC to return the silent/cold calls all day and night to drive them mad or crash their computer as presumably a lot of these calls are autogenerated?
TPS needs more teeth ie illegal to call you if your no is listed.

Pleased (?!) to report that the 08000641087 number is still calling people as they tried my mobile phone last night. Didn't hear it ring so got the number as a missed call, checked online before calling it back and found this thread so I won't bother!
  • Having had 3 months worth of these calls I decided enough was enough. After making sure the number was OK to call (i.e. it wouldn't charge me) by looking on another thread about stopping calls from LBM Marketing, I called it. It gave me another 0800 number to call, which I did. This number that I called allows you to remove yourself from their database.

Previously all they had was a secondary 0845 number (local rate) to remove your details. This of course meant that they would profit from you. However, due to a large amount of industry pressure, they have now changed it.

Good luck to all you people who have been annoyed by the silent calls. The end is in sight!!
  • Hi guys

Just rang the number and got an automated message saying that they are experiencing a high demand of calls, if you still wish to speak to an advisor please call 0800 013 6671, this number then gives you the option of removing your number from their database.....allegedly! The other alternative as others have mentioned, is to sign up to TPS.....

    good luck!

    .................
    LBM: Background

Many UK mobile phone and landline subscribers have reported nuisance phone calls from the following numbers:
    • 08000641081 (0800 0641081)
    • 08000641087 (0800 0641087) [LBM masquerading as "O2"]
    • 08000641699 (0800 0641699)[LBM masquerading as "Business Solutions from the Carphone Warehouse"]
    • 08000649955 (0800 0649955) [LBM masquerading as "American Life"]
    • 08000510660 (0800 0510660)
    • 08000136662 (0800 0136662)
    • 08000136670 (0800 0136670) [LBM masquerading as "Sky"]
    • 08000136671 (0800 0136671) [LBM masquerading as "O2"]

    • 08000136674 (0800 0136674) [LBM masquerading as "American Life"]
    • 08000136675 (0800 0136675)
    • 08009524854 (0800 9524854) [LBM masquerading as "Orange"] (new)
    • 02070549003 (0207 0549003)
    • 01616032400 (0161 603 2400)
    • 01612178400 (0161 217 8400)
    • 01616030000 (0161 603 0000)
The characteristics of these calls is that the phone rings a few times and then stops, or the line goes dead when the person receiving the call picks up. Several calls can be received over the course of a few days.

I've been getting the same calls from 0800 0641087 on my mobile. I called them back and got a recorded message from O2. It gave a number to call if you didn't want to receive sales calls.

So, if you call 0800 0136671, it gives you the option to remove your number from the O2 Marketing list.

Nice to see it's all freephone. I just hope it works
