BTW- for those who missed [ deliberately ] unstated the the hidden point of the pic I posted in #57 -
- this one
It says that whilst all are disabled and deserving in one way or another, only one has the capacity to climb a tree, many disabilities are hidden, we are all different people, LiMA does not see people differently.
It also says that even if they were all fit and even Olympic athletes, only one could climb the tree, we are all different people, LiMA does not see people differently.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Reading this thread and the new rules on nearly everything to do with disabilities I am coming to the conclusion that had this section of society been:
Foreigners
A certain race or colour
Travellers
Illegal immigrants
or any other section of society that has special interest groups that can highlight their cause by playing one of several cards that are taboo.
Then we would be left well alone! The Daily-hate-Mail and alike kick people who are not in a position to fight as hard as others due to the fact that many find it a struggle just to live.
I have spent the afternoon reading The Equality Act 2010 and so many parts of the new rules sail so close to breaking it, if not in practice, but in spirit.
Is there any organisation that will stick up for the disabled in a more concerted nature, we are an easy target. A few con merchants have managed to give a government enough ammunition to persecute a whole section of society that have on the whole paid in as much if not more than they have taken out.
2011, is the year to remember when the right wing together with the Liberal party started to take the first steps in putting the disabled in a virtual poor house. Victorian Britain is returning.0 -

Because the disabled were given a free cart and horse in Victorian Britain?
Just shows the mentality of the ungrateful tbh.0 -

Ungrateful? The employer of over 250. The tax payer which totalled over £72K a month on the business. Someone who paid £174K in Capital gains tax when the business was sold, the idiot who was in one of the services when young and did my bit. The ungrateful who then went on and invented several products that have gone on to be a contribution to the country. Then the idiot who invested his life's money into a UK life assurer who was allowed to go belly up with no protection.
What's your CV like? If I had been ungrateful to this country and took the full advice of my accountant I would have put my money offshore and avoided pay my dues. By my math, I am still owed 99.2% of what I ever paid in! The rest has been used by my family and me.0 -

It didn't sound ungrateful - but silly. Putting the disabled "in a virtual poorhouse" by limiting the price of motability vehicles to £25,000!? Get some perspective. Half of the world is starving. The majority of people in Africa and Asia would struggle to earn £25,000 total in 10-20 years. That's poor.
I also think DLA should be means tested, if you have made so many hundreds of thousands of pounds surely you don't need a subsidy?* (*edit - just noticed you said you lost your money in an assurance company - so I take that part back for you and am genuinely sorry if thats true. But the fact is millionaries can and do claim DLA.)
Anyway, what exactly is the problem with the new rules? There is no change in the amount of money claimants will receive, and over 90% will be unaffected. It's just put a stop to people getting luxury 4x4s on a taxpayer subsidy. If the "advance" purchase price e.g. £9k on an X5 really wasn't a special good deal and was just the fair actual cost, then why not just use your monthly allowance to help lease or buy one? No hard feelings intended as I know this is a senstitive issue for some.0 -
In my opinion, Motability is a luxury this country can no longer afford and should be scrapped. We're billions upon billions of pounds in debt, yet still spending money like it's going out of fashion on schemes like this.
The scheme is so widely abused with sons, daughters and grandchildren of people who qualify for DLA, some of whom have never worked and have no intention of ever working in their lives, running around in better cars than people like me who are working full time to support our families. My wife and I are about £5000 to £6000 a year worse of with all these austerity measures, yet I'm still expected to fund these schemes and keep all the layabouts in the lifestyles they've become accustomed to. It's an absolute disgrace that it's been allowed to continue for so long.
I do not have a problem with genuinely disabled people being supported by this scheme, but the simple truth of the matter is that they only make up a small percentage of total number. The majority are chancers and layabouts who think the world owes them a living.0 -

You'll find I am on about the overall attack on the disabled, ESA, DLA to PIP, withdrawal of treatment (personal experience) due to no more funding for simple pain injections, which, if I paid £400 for I could have straight away! Correct in a car thread it sounds an over reaction, but on the whole still an attack.
Work out how much of a percentage the DWP lost in "mistakes", it is small beer compared to the fraud generated attack on the disabled.0 -

By scrapping it the "genuine" people you don't mind supporting with "your funding" also lose out.We have a motability car and I use it for my two children with special needs to get to various hospital appts around the country/therapies/school runs etc etc so we are good value ..kind of like a BOGOF of disabled kids in just the one car :pWe really pushed the boat out and paid a whopping £99 for a basic Zafira AND my husband works full time and pays tax just like you. So should people like us not be allowed one too? God some of the ignorant comments from people who just have NO clue are making me laugh recently :rotfl:
ETA...just read back and that sounds SO flippant.Didn't mean to..just some of the threads on here and the ignoramuses posting are really bugging me.What happened to the old days where people only actually voiced an opinion about something they actually KNEW something about or had first hand experience of?It's actually very, very worrying knowing my kids are growing up in a world where people can be so damn judgemental about their disabilities:(Slightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8:D:D xx
