order a £15000 car Garage gets £15000 from scheme holders

order a £30000 car £8000 or however much AP from customer leaves £22000 to be paid from scheme holders £8000 more needs to be paid for the car from somewhere else which I believe will be the taxpayer funded scheme .

The cars are £30k on paper or RRP but I think they are cheaper on Motability. A bit like a company buying vehicles for their staff.

Perhaps we should abolish the OAP's bus pass as this costs a lot of money too. Or make them pay some towards their travel.

No no no no no the money is clawed back at the resale after 3 years just ask motability Monday morning this is how some cars that cost more retail have less ap than some cheaper ones, also servicing costs and ins costs are taken into consideration , it's just not as simple as your equation

Yes Majority of cars are worth 30-35% of purchase cost after three so the dearer the car the bigger the deprecation so a £30000 car will bring more money in resale but will have lost more money overall for the taxpayer funded scheme

But the whole point of the scheme is to keep you mobile and provide a car /WAV that suits your NEEDS not to provide you with a car you WANT
and as been said grants are there for WAV
But WAVS don't necessarily suit your needs. I personally would only ever have a WAV as a last resort because they're way too big & I want my life to be as normal as possible. The rules probably won't affect me because I'm a real MSE stalwart & get the largest MPV for either nil deposit or maybe a few hundred because I can't stand the thought of throwing my own money down the drain! But that's because I'm lucky in that my son is able to transfer from his chair to the car himself and I'm still fit enough to put his wheelchair in the boot. What about other cases where the carers are not fit enough to be lifting chairs or where the disabled person is unable to self-transfer & have to travel in their chair, its completely unfair to force them to pay vast amounts of money for a huge van they don't want just to satisfy the Daily Mail readers baying for blood or prevent the fraudsters pulling a fast one. :(

There is no extra cost the government for higher priced cars, that's funded by Motability (which is a charity) and the customer's Advanced Payment.

Also I would like to point out that drive from chair wavs are only available if you are in full time employment, so what about unemployed or part time working wheelchair users

The scheme is contract hire, Motability set the advance payment depending on residual value, financing costs, service/tyre costs, insurance. Whereas a normal contract hire company also makes a profit motability will try and set the advance payment to break even once all the other costs and the payment from DLA are taken into account. The truth is in recent years they have been making a surplus, I think this is one of the reasons the good condition bonus was introduced. Motability run the largest fleet in the UK and hence can get good discounts from the manufacturers, tyre companies etc meaning the advance payments are usually much lower than with a commercial leasing company. It doesn't matter what the value of the car is, the cost to the government is the same: higher rate DLA.

Disabled people can choose to spend their DLA on whatever they want and the sad thing is the Daily Mail won't be bothered about them spending it on beer and fags but deem it wrong to have a vehicle that best suits their needs.

Corgiman - why don't we go back to the government issuing those blue 3 wheelers, would you be happy driving one of those about?

My point exactly somebody other than the customer is paying for the higher value cars when the whole idea of the mobility scheme is to keep disabled people mobile so surely saving money with lower value cars should be encouraged
