I wish I could run a brand new Vauxhall Zafira for a £99 down payment and thereafter free for 3 years inclusive of tax, insurance and servicing.

The fact that you can says all there is to say really about the over generous motability scheme. While I pay thousands every year to keep my modest second hand car on the road, I am also having to subsidise others to drive around in brand new cars for free.

The welfare state has created generations of people who think the world owes them a living and it's their God given right to get everything for nothing. And anyone who DARES to question the fairness of it all gets criticized for their trouble.

Maybe you'd like to swap it for a child with disabilities??Or maybe some others disabilities on here would be worth you getting a £99 zafira??You are IGNORANT and naive and people like you with your sweeping generalisations make me sick to my stomach.

this is the trouble with threads like this people jump on them having their gripe about how they work and dont feel their hard earned taxes should go tothe disabled having some sort of life well let me tell you my husband would sooner have good health and feel "normal" rather than have a vehicle which some people feel is unjust and not right .as for taxes we all pay them in one way or another and i know my husband would love to work rather than be ill but for him life has taken another turn and is unable to so those whinging on about paying their taxes think first before you judge.
Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)

No I would not and it was not my intention to offend you or your children. Obviously I don't know your personal circumstances and this isn't anything personal against you, just against the many people I come into contact with every week who abuse the system.

There are also varying degrees of disability and it was my understanding that in order to qualify for motability, you need to be in receipt of the higher rate mobility component of DLA. This should mean that in order to qualify you should be unable or virtually unable to walk, which is clearly not the case is the vast majority of cases.

Ungrateful? The employer of over 250. The tax payer which totalled over £72K a month on the business. Someone who paid £174K in Capital gains tax when the business was sold, the idiot who was in one of the services when young and did my bit. The ungrateful who then went on and invented several products that have gone on to be a contribution to the country. Then the idiot who invested his life's money into a UK life assurer who was allowed to go belly up with no protection.

What's your CV like? If I had been ungrateful to this country and took the full advice of my accountant I would have put my money offshore and avoided pay my dues. By my math, I am still owed 99.2% of what I ever paid in! The rest has been used by my family and me.

    a) You are a man off the internet. You can make up anything you like, so you'll understand why I give no credence to your claims.
    b) You show the mentality of the historically uneducated and the knee jerk left, so I give no credence to your claims x 2.
    c) You do not appear to understand how the benefits system works. Whether you pay in £20 or £20k, you do not 'use up what you have put in' in any way. Such an elementary lack of understanding of the way it works means I give no credence to your claims x 3.

It really is the mentality of both the stupid and ungrateful to say that the disabled are on a path to Victorian Britain when you are complaining about your Motability options.

You can you just choose not to.

    Zafira with Personal Lease

Leasing your new Vauxhall Zafira is simple. Just put down one low deposit followed by fixed monthly payments tailored to suit your budget. (same as Motability)

You also benefit from these extras:

Your Road Fund Licence paid for the duration of your lease
AA Roadside Assistance provided for the duration of your lease
Fully inclusive service and maintenance package for complete peace of mind (optional package only)
    Free metallic paint.

Nobody gets a Motability car for free.

For goodness sake! These cars are NOT free!!!!! You pay the advanced payment and then you PAY motability your monthly HRM DLA money. If you did not have a motability car then you'd have your HRM DLA payment each month. If these cars were free then there'd be no sacrificing your HRM money each month.

You don't have to pay road tax regardless of whether it is a motability car or not. Even with a motability car you still pay for petrol etc etc. Motability cars are NOT free!!!!!

Its such a common misconception that motability cars are free isn't it. I was asked why I didnt get the free car by a member of adult social services team. They was rapidly educated the car is in exchange for your DLA allowance and not and addition. Therefore not Free! Its a nice idea though!

Why thank you for your well thought out diatribe. Of course you know me, knee jerk left....hmm....always thought I was right wing in thinking, but thank you again for, yawn, sorry, what was you saying?
  • The changes need to happen.

there are too many people say with diabetes or asthma who have cars, yes the problem could and should be sorted when they apply for DLA the problem is with the medical assessors.
The other problem on motability is there are too many families who get a car for their disabled son/daughter and then use that car for there work or don't use that car for their son or daughter at all say to swimming lessons after school clubs etc etc.

I am a wheelchair user and have been on motability for 6 years, not all of us are paying say £1500 AP to get a more expensive car I ordered my next car back in may, still havent got it as it's not been built, but I commute to liverpool from manchester to work but drive with hand controls, due to the milege I do 18000 per year a diesel is the best option especially with the cost of fuel, but due to my disability cerebral palsy I require an auto with hand controls, I will have pay £2000 for a mondeo zetec 2.0 auto, due to my age 25 that was the only car i could get insured on other than the insignia and if you look at whats currently available out of 1475 cars on the scheme 263 are auto's most disabled drivers need an auto, the whole point of the scheme is to get us mobile so we can work etc etc there should be 50% auto 50% manual.

In my case I need a larger car to carry my wheelchair on the passenger seat and my racing wheelchair as i'm also a athlete, at present 79 out of 1475 cars are diesel autos. Also I could of got a basic insignia diesel auto but when i phoned my local dealer their reply was " oh theirs a 6 month wait we cant get any" hence why i went to ford and am having to pay an extra £600 or something. so out of 1475 cars I had the choice of 2 of which suited my needs and of which I could get insured on.

Also at the time back in may they stopped doing the focus estate which I currently have and would of had another but because the new one had just come out the 2008 model was no longer on the scheme. the new car was more expensive than a mondeo, A focus!!! the new focus back in may just a hatch was £2100 AP or something the mondeo £2000, yet the manual models of both were just a few hundred AP.

also another problem with motability, I had to ring before I ordered my next car to check I could get insured the lady on the phone said "can you not get someone else to drive the car" I kindly replied NO and anyway i wouldnt want to I've always been independent and i thought that was the whole point of the scheme.

Would be interested in hearing other people opinions.
