Does anyone do a full shop at Aldi?

we have a Lidl near us too - and yes I have done a couple of shops there - its similar to Aldi. The difference was that OUR Aldi seems to be better managed. The Lidl shop had tired veg and most of the meat seemed to be very near its use by date. there were also gaps where they hadnt restocked and that annoys me - there is NO excuse for that in EPOS stores (one of my main bugbears with Adsa - if they run out of frozen chips for example, its not just the one brand, its ALL brands! grrrr).
My local Aldi runs like a well oiled machine! I have worked in retail for over 40 years and this store is, I know, well managed. its very rare they have gaps in the stock and the stock is nearly always well within its use by.
The staff seem happy and me and OH are on first name terms with most of them! as they have been there so long!
I actually like shopping there - shopping at Adsa or Mr T puts me in an evil mood! I hate it - and cannot believe how slow the checkouts are!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
We flit between Aldi and Lidl, can't exactly do a full shop, but for most stuff one or other of them will have it covered.
Aldi do a frozen pizza for £1.99 (Rectangular thin crust meat feast type of thing) which is fab, and I am not a pizza fan!
Also do lovely milk choc with whole almonds (practically addictive!)
but the Lidl version of the hazelnut is better than the Aldi one imho.
Aldi choc buttons, both milk and white are very good, and only 35p
Both Aldi and Lidl very good FR chicken (I only buy FR), they are excellent and very good value for FR.
Lidl Gelatelli ice cream is lovely especially the choc cornetto type and the magnum type lollies.
Lidl Magnum washing up liquid is excellent.
If your Lidl stock them, the whole smoked mackeral are delicious, soft and creamy flesh, perfect for making pate (I make it with their cream cheese, bit of lemon juice, but of FG black pepper, yummy!).
I could go on, we keep finding things that are not only cheaper, but much better (either for taste or quality) than the branded stuff in the other supermarkets -OH total convert!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Seem to go on a Supermarket crawl these days, today Aldi, Sainsburys ,Tesco, and Waitrose.
Aldi Cat Food ( cat likes the senior) dried food.
Wine (Italian 2.99) I like and cheap.
Waitrose various ,OH has coeliac diet condition so has found some products are available no were else, that are tasty.
Gluten free porridge for example.
The essential range also has some good food, bread less than 70p that is tasty and lasts.
Sainsburys basics Sandwich deli filler, bananas and some veg.
Tesco meat 3 for a tenner, lamb, steak chicken.Sainsburys do the same.
Waitrose also, nothing there today though.
Going back in time, we would have never visited this amount of stores, just goes to show how shopping habits have changed with the need to save money & get the best quality within the budget.0 -
Thank you all. I think this month we will do our shopping there, meal planning and see how much we spend.
Things that I need like washing powder, conditioner, toiletries I will still nip to Tesco or Asda for as I like certain brands but I think that would only be once a month.0 -
I could be wrong, but I should think they mean for a 2litre bottle not a can.
Yes sorry thats right, I meant for a 2l bottle; I loce the Barrs stuff but using the demotivator made me realise how much my pop addiction was costing. A happy medium for me is to have 1 bottle per week (with my OH) at a cheaper price :0)First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
I like aldi but couldn't do a full shop there as there is a limited range of products. I've always found much of their lookalike products to be good qaulity. Usually very competitive for fresh fruit vegetables and meat and the prices don't fluctuate as much as the big 4. Their frozen fish products are usually very good value and qualityAwaiting a new sig0

Give Aldi's a go. I've used their washing liquid and fabric softner and they are good and I love some of their toiletries e.g. night cream, hair conditioner, mouthwash. Even some of their make up is good e.g. consealer(sp?) has been compaired to touch eclait, lip gloss, blusher. i'm not too keen on their foundation though.
My OH is very fussy about coffee but even he likes their comumbian one and I think it is only £1.69. also their washing up liquid is better than fairy and only 59p.
As you can probably tell i'm a total Aldi convert :rotfl:0 -
I have now been to Aldi a few times and i too am impressed. But i did laugh the other day because i needed peppercorns. I couldn't see any anywhere so i asked a SA. She looked at me as if i was completely mad. I said no pepper of any sort? She said no, whilst looking at me as if i was asking for some exotic spice that nobody uses. Finally debt free, all thanks to this site and all the posters:j0

A couple of years back, I popped into an Aldi as it was next to the carpet shop that I had to go to. I personally wasn't that impressed by the prices that I saw of stuff - it looks like a lot of the same thing that other supermarkets do - offer good prices on a few staples, and hope that people go on to buy other stuff. I have bought bits n bobs in lidl because it was there (like on holiday), and not been disappointed by the quality (in case anyone thinks i'm bashing 'em!).
@23: £1.99 for a pizza?, ASDA do pizzas for £1, and iceland do the best ones (imo) for £1.50. I occasionally get really posh ones for £2 (stuffed crust meaty ones!).
Anyways, I'm too busy to do a supermarket shoparaound - my time is more important to me these days, so tend to stick to asda as the best of a bad bunch.0 -

i found the aldi washing powder great give it a try you might like it if not then go back to what you were using before but if you dont try you dont know.
I have just started to shop at aldi/lidl and as other people have said the quality is great cooked meats, tomatoes, passata, milk, washing powder, bread, coffee, pop, chocoate and meat is all great. Some thing like scourers, fabric softner then asdas smartprice are still cheaper so i tend to do my main shop in aldi/lidl (alternate weeks for variety) and then top up what i cant get by going to asda.I find i save at least £5 a week and the quality of what we are buying is much better.:TDFD September 2017
