Do you find you save alot by shopping there? Do you find it to be good quality?
Trying to find somewhere else to shop, Asda has gone up far too much.

No not in Aldi but we do a full shop in Lidil. We found that we have changed our habbits and save loads by going there. Both stores are much the same imo.0 -
I do a weekly shop at Aldi - then every few months we do a Tesco shop for the items that I cant live without and Aldi doesnt stock! tbh its things like Oxo cubes - I dont like the Aldi version - tins of Butter beans etc and my OHs electric toothbrush heads and worcester sauce. I spend about £20 in Tesco for these essentials - and although I do try not to - those tempting little special offers!
I find that you have to get used to the Aldi way of shopping, I love the Aldi Super Six on veg and find the rest of the veg reasonably priced too (in fact its cheaper than the local market and much fresher!
I have revised menus depending on Aldis Special buys!
I find the quality of Aldi foods is far better than the Big Four supermarkets, Its NOT just cheap food - its value for money food. Some of their brands are IMHO better than the market leaders. Corale, who make their tinned sausage and beans, Beans, and Ravioli are far superior to Heinz!
Their nappies are fantastic value - I bought them for 'spares' for the grandkids then found I had to buy packs for DILs as they were better than Pampers or Huggies - and HALF the price!
I could go on - but, me and OH try almost every single item they stock at least once - we nearly always find we like it!
PS to Aldi - when are you getting those Chicken Jambons in again - They were mouthwateringly delish!0 -
I get most of my shop there, and it''s great stuff - as Meritaten said, it's not just cheap, it's great value. For instance, their Torchon Ham - really, really nice and my Mum makes a special trip for one of their German hams (says that no-where else does one so nice (Waitrose, Co-Op, Asda). I can honestly say that apart from some of the wine, I have never disliked anything due to poor quality, only personal taste.
After problems with my cat I had to look for a higher meat-content cat food. I started to look at the sachets/trays, and was amazed to realise that the cheaper Aldi ones had a better meat content that all the fancy ones in the other supermarkets and at a MUCH better price.0 -
If you are prepared to cook from scratch, then Aldi is the place to go. I love their fruit and veg, they do really good icecream, seeded bread, cooked meats, cheese and tinned goods. Their tinned tomatoes at 31p are really good and they do a really good passatta. The offer of £5 off a £30 shop was a great incentive this week to stock up on their dishwasher tablets and loo rolls. (offer in daily mirror)
Maybe do a meal plan and try it for a week?0 -
i did a shop there last night. went to see if anything was cheaper than what i normally buy and it certainly was! There baked beans by Corale are literally so nice and i got a pack of 3 peppers for 99p which i thought was good. i bought 13 items and it only came to £8.30 and its such good quality stuff.
only down side is you have to pay for carrier bags, so take your own!:j0 -
I really like Aldi (and Lidl) and yes once you get used to them I think you could do a full shop there, as has been said they lend themselves more towards a cooking from scratch sort of shop (Aldi is really good for baking ingredients imo) but they do do some preprepared stuff like Lasagnes and pizzas etc.
We tried the 49p bread from Aldi last week and it was very good, we go through loads as we have six children so that will be a big saving for us.0 -
I love Aldis!!!! The jams and the orange juice are the best around. The frozen lamb shanks (£4.79 for 2) are amazing. What I love most about it is that there is no faffing about. You go in, buy what you need and come out. You want mayonaise? Two choices, low fat or full fat. None of this weighing up of offers to see what works out best, and no distracting bogof offers. I can literally do a full shop in about 20 minutes.
Give it a try. Somethings may not be to taste, but there will be stuff you love & wont go back to asdas for.0 -
I just don't like the look of the meat in there (the cooked meats seem fine - German speciality after all), but the mince, chicken etc doesn't look as appealing as Asda's. I don't like the look of Aldi's fridges, they don't seem to be as efficient or as well-managed as the ones in the big supermarkets.0

I would say 95% of my shopping comes from Aldi but I do also have to buy lemon and lime juice /chillies/ spices / Worcestershire sauce and washing liquid from Morrisons ( only other close shop) I find their own range cheaper and it does for the top up. I only do Morrisons about once a month.
All our meat is either from aldi or the local farm shop and I find it good quality, their cheap mince is a bit fatty but for the price it doesn't take a minute to drain the fat off.
I really dislike ASDA so avoid that shop like the plague and wouldn't eat their meat if you paid me, I would rather turn veggie.
Aldi also use to do Ostrich meat and that was fab.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

Oh and as someone else mentioned the bread is great. I buy the brown sliced loaf and that can last a week without going mouldy and for me that is brilliant as I only have 2 slices of toast a day and find that other more expensive bread goes off after 3 days and it is wasted.
I also like their own olive oil spreadThere is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
