  • I just don't like the look of the meat in there (the cooked meats seem fine - German speciality after all), but the mince, chicken etc doesn't look as appealing as Asda's. I don't like the look of Aldi's fridges, they don't seem to be as efficient or as well-managed as the ones in the big supermarkets.

Aldi's chicken and beef roasting joint (fresh) are fab, oh and so is the bacon! and always long sell by dates. We don't buy our mince or sausages there though!

I've recently tried both Lidl and Aldi (Lidl a good 45 minutes walk away, but hey fresh air and exercise!) I found I preferred Aldi and that a lot of the prices were a lot better than those in Lidl.

Especially found this on naughties e.g own brand Irn Brew; 33p ish in Aldi, 49p in Lidl (? Around those figures).

We still shop in Sainsburys (as get vouchers from work) but alternate between Sains and Aldi (with sometimes nipping to Morrisons before closing to take advantage of reduced items!) ;)

I have found no difference in the quality,
    First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!

It would be cheaper to buy the real thing as it is only 24p a can with free delivery from Amazon.

I could be wrong, but I should think they mean for a 2litre bottle not a can.
I do most of my shopping at Aldi, and can echo it is good for basics when cooking from scratch.

Just last week before payday I ate for five evening meals Aldi's noodles for 18p per pack. Where else can you eat for nearly a week and get change from a quid.
  • I, like another poster, uses Aldi for 95% of my shopping too. I know over the years I've saved LOADS of money shopping there & I highly recommend them! I only use Tesco, Morrisons, Sains or Asda to pick up cheap (value) items such as tea bags (28p), vinegar (13p), ketchup (28p) & some other items Aldi don't seem to price match for value items - but I'd def buy their versions as they're comparable to the proper brand items iykwim. Try them & see - I'd be surprised if you were dissapointed!
  • I am shopping there more than I ever used to but still need to go to one of the bigger supermarkets for gluten free food & Cathedral City cheese.

Aldi's Fresh whole chicken, packs of chicken thighs and packs of chicken legs are superb.
They are not black, blood red or yellow just a nice fresh colour. Always cook well especially the whole chicken in a roasting bag. Rarely go to Lidl but did last week for pork Chops and they were delicious.
Lidl is expensive on other things, toothpaste 1.99, plenty kitchen roll 75p a roll so I am careful on what I buy there.
Aldi for cheese, meat, cooked meats, icecream, chocolate, fruit and veg is good I find.

We used to do a full shop at Aldi and then use ASDA for some of the things Aldi doesn't have, but since we decided to give Lidl a try we now tend to do most of the weekly shop there and then back to ASDA to top up - mostly their meat offers and some odd branded stuff that we still like. But to be honest Aldi/Lidl are very similar in price/quality - much better than the big supermarkets. It's about an 80/20 split for us between Lidl/ASDA.
