dcems - I have felt exactly the same as you - a complete failure that I didn't know the process - I also didn't notice that my son was struggling at school. I am not sure what his diagnosis is/will be as we have only just started the process of getting a statement for him.

Once you have contacted the LEA SEN department, you should be allocated a case worker. Mine was happy to meet with me any time I liked to discuss the process. (Should you have no luck there, you could step it up a notch and contact the LEA legal dept) The parent partnership are also excellent. Have a pen and paper handy, and ask them to repeat things if you need so that you can jot them down.

I have had a very supportive junior school, and the secondary school he has just started is also very supportive however, I have still felt it a battle to get extra help for him in the interim.

All the best, and please don't take any notice of the negative posts. Seems like the majority of posters have your best interests at heart.

A major change in the bairns life occured a month or so before the behavioral changes were noted within the school, even if this was a step relationship/friendship it will still affect the child.

Shame the OP didnt mention this and other relevant information in the opening post on this thread since it is important information.

Telling the truth isnt wrong, I have read every word from dcem and they most certainly dont like the two threads linked (as do not their two hangers on because when you link peoples posts you cant misunderstand them or call them liars) but that donst change the truth that this bairns step grand parent died and they then went of the rails and that is what this thread is truly about and thats why no educational professional will back up the op for SEN.
  • I've read both threads through. The OP doesn't mention her child in the one about the bereavement and doesn't mention the bereavement in the one about the child.

So a child cant be affected by a family member dieing, not just a many times removed cousin but a step grandparent, dcem has not mentioned the death because it is relevant in this thread, is the child being terribley affecgted relevant in the faimily thread?

    I think not.
  • From what I can see, the only person who thinks it's relevant is you. Which is totally irrelevant.

I have Aspergers and I was diagnosed by accident, literally after a car accident after a childhood of seeing every professional under the sun where they all agreed I was diffrent and very clever but they couldnt diagnose me but thats very, very diffrent from my experiances with ADHD where all the problems were very evident at a very early age.

I thought you said people dont suddenly get diagnosed ?
Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later
  • I'm with Sunnyone. I also think it is relevant. Not only has the ops dd lost a step grandparent but there seems to be a lot of stress and upset within the family.

My ds has ADHDand ASD (Both were diagnosed before he started school) and changes in anything at all affect him. Even school holidays are a nightmare because it changes his routine.
It is definitely worth mentioning to the proffesionals who are dealing with her as it may change the way they help her.

I hope you get things sorted.

That's because they didn't need linking and certainly didn't need your misguided amateur psychology on the matter.

And what are you on about hangers on? Just because someone supports someone else, does not make them a hanger on? If you have no advice on the topic then perhaps you should think twice about your actions.

You think you are clever and above everyone else and you really are not.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
