Hooray for the mute button on the remote control!
I'm very cynical about adverts. I remember when twin blade razors came out, and there was an animated thingy showing how the two blades meant you would have silky smooth skin, then triple blades came out, and they admitted they had lied about the twin blades because their little animation showed that a mere twin blade didn't actually give you silky smooth skin, but their triple blades did. Then the four blades came out . . . . then the five blades came out . . . . You get the picture.
Similarly with nappies. "Look how our nappies compare with other brands. Baby's bottom will be completely dry if you use our nappy". Then they bring out a new 'improved' nappy, and compare it with their OWN older one (which they had told you left baby's bottom completely dry). The new one actually does leave baby's bottom really dry - compared to their previous one! Oh, and all that guff when they had separate boy and girl nappies being much better, then they weren't because they went back to one type!
Adverts are just lies dressed up in fancy gimmicks.0 -

the only commercial TV I watch is xfactor (for my son) and Grand Designs (for Kevin mcCould mmmmm) so my advertising exposure is faily low!!
Though having said that the onyl time I have been influences by ads to find out the music used in them - the version of Somehwere Over the Rainbow on a Impluse add and a track from a Sky cinema add - I bought both tunes on itunes for 79p - does that count??People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Not a commercial advert, but a very effective one about the importance of washing hands after using a lavatory. It showed someone not bothering, and everything they touched, door handles, plates, children etc, glowed luminously with supposed bacteria. I always washed my hands anyway, but if ever I am tempted to be a little perfunctory, this ad jumps into my mind, and I lather on the soap. I wish it would return, as we know that lots of people don't bother.0

the only advert that ever inspired me to buy that specific product was the Berocca ad with the four people who seemed to randomly walk off the street to do in-sync choreography on the treadmills to "living on the ceiling" by Blancmange. Loved it!! Loved Berocca too, but they became rather dear so I have now downshifted to Boots own with Guarana... to be fair the flavour isn't as good and they take longer to dissolve, but the end result is the same.0

I've bought M&S dine in for £10 deals before because of the advert, but I think that's it (or at least that I can remember). I also know people who've renewed their insurance through Comparethemarket just to get the cuddly meerkat."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0

I'm pleased to say I haven't watched an advert since the creation of Sky+
Seriously though .. its always food ads that get me. My stomach is very open to the power of suggestion! Asda do great meat adverts e.g. leg of lamb or shoulder of pork, yum
... and of course M&S. Although some foods ads just make me go to the local londis and buy the product which isn't really what they're meant for!I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be0 -
We don't watch much 'live' tv in our house. Most of our favorite programmes are pre-recorded with sky+ which means when we get chance to sit-down and watch them we can fast forward through all the annoying ads.
It's amazing an 'hour' programme can be over in just over 30 mins without the ads!!0
