Spill the beans... on which TV ads convinced you?

  • I buy guinness purely to reward them for their brilliant adverts. Oh and I like guinness too!
  • there are some adverts which are just too far fetched for my mind to believe! those mascara adverts where the model looks amazing for example, but when you see the corner of the screen there are some tiny words saying 'the model is wearing lash inserts'.
also hard to believe is that advert where a man in white socks is walking around on a glass floor & and its filmed from below, you can see his socks are really grubby. then he takes them off and puts them on a 30 degree wash and hey presto they're brilliant white again. that sooooo wouldn't happen in the real world.
all in all, these types of adverts have put me off ALL adverts. I don't think I CAN be persuaded these days to buy something I've seen on TV.
  • Most are irritating background noise, some are maddening (go compare? Not likely!), some are amusing ("73% of 15 women thought our amino peptides meant they didn't need botox"), some are clever and admirable.

Very rarely do I feel the need for a certain product; the latest one being "BB cream" - what a crock of sh** that turned out to be! Oh, and the JML "doktor power" cleaner thingy - but I looked at the shop price and changed my mind. Food ads might make me rethink my menu, but not in favour of that particular brand.
However I accept that the overall branding is probably sinking in. I also might choose to buy a certain item if it's advertised as a deal or offer - but only if I already want/need it.
Luckily I try not to buy "products", and there aren't many ads for brands of carrot, or beef.....

    I'm a fool quite often :D

comparethemeercat.com - oops sorry I DO know the difference - I mean comparetheMARKET.com! LOVE those ads, and yes, I fell for the super meerkats, and I've just insured both of my (normal) cats, mainly for the cuddly toys. Have you seen what they fetch on eBay?!!

The John Smiths advert based on crufts where the dog gets the slippers - if they sold john smiths in the pub still i'd drink it every time
    Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
    Debt payments 2012 £433.27
  • First there was the rap one, and now the new boy band one (very clever, on during X Factor with Gary Barlow). Made me laugh lots and you can buy the songs on i-Tunes!

The whole point of ads is to get the brand on your brain so that when you buy you are drawn to their products - I already bought Yeo Valley products, but I am grateful for their non-annoying and amusing creations!:rotfl:

I bought Buscopan Cramps after the advert. They described my pain perfectly! I've bought it several times since then and am completely converted.

They are brilliant adverts, so are the Carlsburg ones. But I wouldn't touch the p1ss that either company makes :D

Suffering recently from a cold (you know the sort - where you just want to lie there and sniffle and moan! Whilst watching TV, of course!). Appetite a bit 'off' - no idea what I wanted to eat.
On comes that advert for Heinz tomato soup, and I just HAD to go and fetch some!
And, boy did I enjoy it!
Strange thing is that tomato soup is definitely NOT on my list of favourites. I like most soup, but am not keen on the tomato variety (in fact was probably a good twenty years or more since I last had it!).
So on that occasion the ad certainly worked on me (although not sure I will buy more now that I am recovered, in fact the thought is making me a bit queasy, so it will probably be another twenty years!).
  • Adverts actually ANNOY me! - they mostly only tell you LIES, they are only trying to get you to buy stuff you don't need or even want.

So what we do is set a kitchen timer kept with the remote, for 4 MINUTES EXACTLY, then watch a video during the advert breaks. That way you can see almost a whole episode of CSI (fast-forwarding their adverts) during a full-length feature such as Midsummer Murders - it's good exercise also for your brain to be tracking 2 plots at the same time.
