I must be getting old and cynical but I think I can honestly say that no TV advert has ever induced me to buy anything.

Same here. Mostly I whizz through the ads with the wonder that is Sky+. My Dad used to work in advertising, too ....

I listen to a local talk radio station, and so have to endure the ads, the M&S food ones annoy me the most, as their food is overpriced and not that good, imho. Brilliant bit of branding, though, as so many people tell me how wonderful it is ...

  • food adverts are definately my weakness...none so much as the geniously placed dominos adverts in the 6pm episode of the simpsons, very clever dinnertime advertising and it worked on me!

The cadburys chocolate ads, one where a gorilla played the drums and the other where two kids sit to have their photos taken and do a funny eye brow dance. Both of those had me thinking ooh yeah cadburys chocolate, must get a bar next time I am in town.
  • M&S adverts make me drool!
One advert that has made me refuse to even use the website is go compare i swear i would knock that man out if i ever saw him in the street! what a way to put off potential customers!

Me too on the go compare man argh!! I never buy anything thats been advertised on principle.

As to TV watching I never ever watch anything live on the commercial channels, I TVR them than catch up the next day and zoom through the adverts. My local commercial radio station has a commercial free half hour commencing on every hour between 9am and 5pm - heaven.

crunchy nut advert. mmmm, made me want to go and buy it.

    and aptamil for our baby.

also, we have currently tried the ASDA £5 off £40 spend. must say, that advertisement must have paid off. really good offer considering you get most things in asda for a good price anyway!
  • - Specific products no. None have convinced me for 30 years Maybe TV adverts only work on children.
    - Yes sometime the reason for an ad is to promote a belief in a quality of the brand e.g. ethical or enviromental, but they don't work either as it's too easy to lie.
    - I buy things cos I need them, cos cos I am brainwashed by an ad. The only way they'd work would be to interest me in a product I never thought of buying : skydiving or visiting a particular country etc. ..but then I'd still research properly before buying. And they'd be better off getting their product into the programme.
    - Those irritating comparison website ads are so memorable I don't forget the names that I am boycotting.. wouldn't buy from them even if they were 10% cheaper.
    - TV advertising isn't free we pay for the cost when we buy the product.
    - Since I've never bought something cos of an Internet advert either. I'm convinced Googles profit is fictitious.
    - On Facebook the right of my screen is always filled with ads saying "Girls in your area want to meet you"..yeh right I wouldn't even think of clicking.
    - My advice for selling : it would be more important to get it into product review sites or onto TV programmes
......... better still give me a discount coupon and I might try your product !
  • Just got battlefield 3 on a real impulse buy @ Sainsburys, the adverts on tv, their university tour and the beta really won me over lol!

The only adverts that have tempted me are the M&S food ones yum.
I love the ad where the muddy dog jumps on the white bedding but can't remember what they were advertising. I loved the smash spacemen as a child and there was a cute AD for sandwich paste in a jar which no one in the world seems to remember except me. I watch the face cream ones to see how many they have been tested on and usually it's under 200 people, yeah i am really going to spend £'s on a face cream that they spend hundreds of thousands of pounds advertising but can only be bothered to test on a very few people, i stick to aldi's £2.99.

You mean the Shippams one? I vaguely remember some stepford wife making hungry son a chicken and ham paste sandwich????????
